I'm looking for a Labrador pup for my husband. I live in Nottingham. The pup should preferably be brown, male and ready to leave its Mother in December.
Yes, it will be a Christmas present, a much needed one since our last dog died 6 months ago, and it will be much loved and looked after.

Hi Guest, The best place to start would be with the Kennel Club who will send you a list of breeders that have puppies. Now don't want to put you off, but you are setting your self a big task. You are restricting distance traveled, colour, sex & when it is 8weeks old. Even if you do find the perfect pup you will still have a lot of trouble talking a responsible breeder into letting you have a puppy at Christmas. You could give a photo of your choosen pup to the recipiant for Christmas and collect to pup in the new year, think of the excitment of the wait. Try dropping one or two of your requirements, say a dog pup of any colour ready sometime in December/January. Ja:)kie

I would suggest not the Kennel Club ( sorry jackie) but the Labrador club they will keep a puppy list from reputable breeders who are memebers of their club ie: will have to have used all the health schemes and breed for sound temperament, adhere to the code of ethics etc.. the KC will just give you numbers of anyone with a KC registered litter and sadly KC REG does not guarantee quality.
From my experience too there is some questionable temmperaments in puppy farm labs especially chocolates so be very careful where you go for one, and finally be prepared to wait for a suitable puppy, and I would suggest to let your Husband be in on choosing it as its a two way street you choose puppy and puppy chooses you.
the lab club sec is 01279655937

Hi Mattie
It is interesting what you say about temperamants of Chocolates from Puppy farms. What sort of things have you come across ? Do you think it is only from Puppy farms or a trait in chocolate as a whole ? Just interested as I have heard somebody else mention this and would like to find out more.

quite right jackie pobably be better with midlands which is 01733222649
Regarding temperament I have found in rescued labs the chocs have the worst record for temperament, but not normally bad from decent breeders

Hi Guest
I agree with Jackie. :)
A photo in a card would be best for Xmas Day, and picking up the pup after Xmas is better all round as pup's need to have peace & quiet when they arrive at their new homes & time to settle in without all the hustle & bustle of Xmas. :)
A tip though is on colours, Lab breeders call them Yellow, Black & Chocolate and some can get quite agitated if you don't. :)
