Hi

We're the proud owners of a 9wk old Golden Retriever puppy who has been feeding on Royal Canin baby dog dry food that we have been soaking in hot water.  We feed him 3 times a day (Royal Canin in the morning and early evening and scrambled eggs at lunch).  Over the last week he has been turning his nose up at the Royal Canin but devouring the scrambled eggs.

Should I be moving him on to tinned food?  If so, how do I go about doing this without upsetting his stomach?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Lisa

Maybe you could feed the RC 3 times a day with a third of the scrambled egg mixed in. Don't be tempted to cut down on RC and feed more egg, the RC has the nutrients puppy needs, eggs alone don't.

At 9 weeks he's too young to be down to three meals a day - puppies should be fed four times a day till they're 12 weeks, then three times a day til they're 6 months.

The Royal Canin is a balanced food that gives him all the nutrients he needs to grow properly. He'd be better off having four meals of the RC (the same daily amount but divided into smaller portions), and leave out the scrambled eggs.

As JG says he should be on 4 meals at that young a age -so the refusal could have to do with each meal being too large, if you're trying to get the amount of 4 meals into 3. :)

Whoops, of course they should!

Thanks to those who have replied.

He was on 3 meals per day when we picked him up from the breeder and we've kept him at that since bringing him home.  I'll try to split into 4 meals per day and see how we go.

Thanks again.

Yes as everyone has said he should be on 4 meals - breakfast, dinner, tea and supper. You could try and mix a very small amout of puppy meat into the royal canin to make it a bit more pallatable.

Yes i would mix in a small amount of puppy nature diet or something similar to make it more appealing. my two goldies always had some wet food mixed in with dry when they were both pups, and they loved rice pudding for supper.
