Anyone know where I can get a dog gate to fit approx 5ft opening , between living area and kitchen . Want something strong enough to stop st bernard knocking it down . Looked on orvis site and like the look of heavy mahogany gate but I would prefer to be able to fold it back against wall and for it possibly to be solid but the one that looks simular is just placed there and i want it to be fixed for safety . Would also like it to look nice not like lindam gate which my dog broke bars of .
My Mum had a gate custom made to fit a specific area and it wasn't as expensive as she thought (can't remember the price tho sorry).
May be worth enquiring so at least you can stain it to whatever colour you want, choose which side to be hung, type of hinge, size of bars etc. My Mum's one has lift and lock hinges so it doesn't need to be there all the time and is designed to stop dogs going up the stairs and grandchildren falling down them!

hadn't thought of that but 5ft quite wide would it look odd did think heavy thick wood would be idea who custom makes them
> who custom makes them
My Mum asked the bloke who made her kitchen cupboards to make hers. Presumably most competent odd job men advertising in your local paper would be ok - particularly if you're pretty clear about what you want. If you have a local timber stockist near you they may do custom jobs or may know someone who can help
Another alternative is to get a wooden garden gate that you can treat/paint yourself. Just make sure you get a planed one as you don't presumably want a rough sawn finish...
Do you know anybody who could knock one up? Might be your best best!!

We bought baby gates and they have been in use for 20 years, kept many mastiffs in. Just let one go on freecycle, the only ones to get out were my daxie pups. We used old metal fridge shelves to prevent paws coming through.
