Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / introducing a new female bulldog
- By Bulldoglover [es] Date 24.08.08 15:49 UTC
Hello everyone,
I have a question to ask you experts.
I have one Bulldog male aged 4,one bulldog female aged 8.5 months(has just had her first season)
I would like to introduce a female bulldog aged around 3 or 4 years(not sure which)Both of my bullys are very placid and playful, and i dont want to upset the applecart by introducing another female dog who may disrupt them both.
Any advice will be warmly welcomed, also, which would be the best way to inroduce the new one, take them out for a walk, before bringing her into the house?

Hi Bulldoglover,
If you want to introduce any new dog to your pack make sure it is on neutral territory first- I personally would let her meet your 4 yr old boy first without your young girlie, I'm sure your young bitch will just want to play it all depends on the new girl, Meet in a park on leads and walk them together and see if they are fine then if OK with those 2 then bring the young 18 month along to walk them all together then. Knowing bitches the new girl will become boss in no time as females usually are. Then walk them into your house from there walk give them plenty of space so they wont feel threatened. I'm sure you will see what will happen in the first half an hour meeting. Take toys with you so to see how they react with them and each other but outside in the open first- rather than in your house. Let us know how it goes.
I introduced 2 bitch staffies together in my friends house and mine was only 6 months old so thought it would be OK but they ended up having a right scrap! so I took them both out with a friend who had one and I had the 6 month old, and walked them in a figure of eight praising them when they meet in the end about 20 minutes or so, they were OK with each other- they  would argue over things such as a bone or ball though.

Introducing a bitch particularly an adult bitch could be a problem, sometimes it works out fine no problem but at others the bitches will fight and once a fight has happened it can be very difficult to stop repeat bouts. It will/would probable be easier if the older bitch is spayed.

I did think about meeting on neutral territory first, and i will do that.
My little female dog is only a baby 8-9 months and all she will want to do is play. The new female has been living with another male from being a baby.I just hope she doesnt come riddled with behaviour problems as she is someone elses dog.

Well, yes it is always best to introduce dogs on neutral territory and if you can get them playing all the better. If you will have problems or not is in the lap of the Gods, if both are neutered it may well be more likely they will get on but not necessarily so.

It is true that loads of bitches live together in harmony but some don't and if they don't their fights are far worse than anything that dogs will do, and they will never forget.
