Ok, I know I have posted about coat issues before, but I am running out of options it seems.

Back in January, my girl was tested for Demo.  They didnt find mites, but they treated anyways.  Her hair started to come back, and I was like "Ok its demodex".  Well, I have kept her on Advantage Multi, which also has a treatment for Demodex since then.  Faithfully every month she has gotten her treatment.

But, now all her hair is coming out again.   Right infront of her ears, and her belly again.  She never really did get any coat on her neck.

I added Seagreens to her food, and I am feeding Turducken.  (Turkey, Duck, and Chicken) by Merrick.

She was doing good on Canidae, as far as coat was concerned (as the growth of coat was while she was on Canidae), but my vet believes it was Canidae that caused the crystals she had in her bladder a while back.  The vet suggested to take her off Canidae.

Any ideas on what to do next?  This is my special, so I of course want a nice coat for when she is in the ring.

You seem to have explored all avenues so sorry if this sounds daft but have you tried neem shampoo at all?
- By Crespin Date 20.08.08 13:00 UTC
I havent even heard of that shampoo.  I currently use Darkest Coat, which claims to darken colours of dark dogs.  I think I may switch that as well, even though she doesnt get bathed to often (the joy of a short coat, when a wet shammy will do)  I am thinking of using Hibatine......has anyone tried that???

I will look at the vets today when I go (I am taking the girls in for a weigh).  And also the local pet stores for a coat improvement shampoo.

I am also going to get her thyroid tested.  I dont think she has thyroid problems, but its a health test I gotta do anyways before I bred her, so its better to see if maybe that is causing the problem???

Sorry don't know hibatine. Hibitane (chlorhexidine) is a skin cleanser etc, could it be a shampoo containing that?
Google Neem & see what you think. The guy from Neem Genie is very helpful if you want any advice. They do a whole range of products containing Neem.
Hope you get it sorted

Been through all this.  Fungal test, mange test, thyroid test, you name a test one of my guys has been through it all, only dog I have ever seen this happen in.

Turned out to be a grass pollen allergy and pattern baldness (hereditary but not something that is tested for), he goes bald on his chest, front of neck, back of rear legs.  The places that touch grass.  It is something you just have to live with.

He will now never be shown (even though I can get his cost nearly all back in the winter except for under his belly) or be breed from.

I know you dont want to hear this but do you really think your dog should be in the ring??  Even if by using shampoo you can conceal the baldness the shampoo will change her coat.  I know it seems a shame but I would hate to feel you are paying expensive entry fees to not be placed.  Or at least stop showing until you manage to get it under control and find out what it is.

Interesting, as she rolls a lot in the grass, so if its that, then maybe thats whats also causing this.

As far as showing:
I have kept her out of the ring, since she got her CH.  I have been wanting to get all health testing done, before I special her.  As there is no point specialing a dog, that wont be bred from (if health tests come back not in her favor).

hi i have a staffy with the same problem as you he was treated for demodex but bood tests revealed grass allergies and food allergies to flour wheat gluten rice corn all of which are in all dog food and kibble i have since put him on a cerealfree kibble wafcol and he likes that but the itching has come back im just hoping its the grass allergy he has with it being summer ..as the scratching did stop in the winter..

Seems allergies are on the rise from what I have read online.
Especially grass pollen and food allergies.

Congrats crespin on making her up as a champion.  I wish the UK system was the same as the US (live in the states for a few years), I like the specials classes, not really much like that over here for champions.  Might note be a grass allergy as I take it she is at least a couple of years old, allergies usually start while still a puppy.  But worth do a broad spectrum allergy test for a load of things just in case.

She turned two in June.  She never really has had a wonderful coat, and I was trying to think of when my other girl got hers, and when other breeders have had wonderful coats on their pins.  I think it was around this time, that coats start to come in nice.

I have had a hard time with her food.  Everything I put her on, I dont like something about it.  Something each time changes her, and I switch again.  Which definately cant be helping.

The best coat she had, was when I first brought her home, and she was on Eagle Pack Holistic Blends.  I have always stayed with a holistic food (minus the one month she had to be on a script diet from the vet).  I am thinking of going back to Eagle Pack, as they do have one for coat/allergies/and sensitive stomach.

She has done really well in the show ring, bless her.  She has only not placed twice.  Her coat hasnt been holding her back, but I definately want to find out what is causing this.  As well, as getting a full Wellness Screen done (its a broad panel of bloods, which checks thyroid, liver, kidney, and other blood panels, its something like 20 tests in all).  Then of course get more breed specific health tests done.  The joys of having a special lol!!!!!  But I didnt want to do some of the health screens until she turned two, since some are less acurate before then.

We had to do the whole elimination diet with our boy to.  But as he wasnt keen on the vet diet we ended up with him on a raw diet in the end.  Switched all the others as well and they seem to do really well on it.  We never had any confirmed food allergies (just the grass) for him but when he was on raw he seemed to itch less and drop less hair.

Good luck with the million and one tests and I would say switch to whatever food you think is best, because with some vet diets they help the allergy issue but the coat can go super dull and mine even lost weight.  I am sure you will get to the bottom of it eventually but I know how fustrating it can be.

Let us know what it is when you find out

See the thread on 'Feeding' about coat enhancement. I can't recommend sunflower oil highly enough. It's transformed my dogs coats.
