Some of you will have seen my previous posts about my GME girl. She's coming toward the end of her 16mth treatment  & the specialist has advised a repeat MRI to see if the chemo has worked or if she has to stay on it, most probably life long. She's quite well in herself at the moment & i want to do the best for her. The problem is that it wont of course tell us if she'll relapse when treatment stops. Also the GME is not her only health problem. She has airway disease similar to asthma & a mild collapsing trachea. And now to crown it all, her bloods have shown high liver enzymes. If i don't have the MRI done & she relapses it would mean starting the treatment protocol all over again & that would mean high dose prednisolone which her liver would not now cope with. The MRI will cost another £1200 which will use up the rest of her insurance for this condition & basically leave nothing for continuing treatment if its needed.
I love my dog very much but can't decide what is best to do for her.
Any ideas or advise please.
Thanks.

If you don't have the MRI and she relapses she will need treatment, which she cannot cope with given her failing liver.  If you do have the MRI and it shows the chemo has not worked - its the same result.   If you do have the MRI and it shows the chemo worked - you still have a dog with a failing liver, other health problems, and no funds to pay for further treatment.

If this were my dog and money was an issue - and I was fairly certain the liver problems were not the result of chemo - at this point I would let nature takes its course.  Treat the symptoms and make her as comfortable as possible.

You have to do what you think is best for your dog. Personally I wouldn't put any of my dogs through Chemo, they would be put to sleep. Better a week too early than a day late. However, these are my personal ethics - there are many, many people on here who think you should do everything possible to keep your dog alive. Nobody can tell you what to do, we can only say what we would do in your position. In your position I wouldn't get the MRI scan done, because it wouldn't change anything, I would leave her alone and give whatever medicines were necessary to ensure she was happy and enjoying a good quality of life. If she wasn't enjoying a good quality of life then I would have her put to sleep.

I totally agree with the others.
You will know what to do and be strong as you alone will know what is best for your dog.
Generally we all know what we would do, but, it must be said every time there are different things to consider, every time is different, as all dogs are different.
