We've had yet another ex-prisoner who hasn't done anything ' bad ' ( !!!! ) knocking on the door trying to sell dusters etc. I never buy anything on the door step anyway , but i thought that this had been stopped due to people feeling intimidated .
Anybody know ?

Not sure but we used to get a lot of unemployed people and youth offenders selling  in our area.

I actually felt quite sorry for them at times. The things they are selling are vastly overpriced and the quality doesn't seem too great - allegedly :)

A few years ago I was talking to one chap who was very polite - not an exprisoner but an unemployed youth from the north of the country. Before he saw any money the company that brought him down here stopped his coach fare, his digs for the week and petrol money for being dropped off in our area. His commission was 2p for every pound - that's an awful lot of selling rubbish to people who don't want it. The companies who employ these youngsters IMHO are not doing them any favours at all. I would hate to have to sell for a living and I hate exploitation.

We had door to door sellers that pretended to be mentally disabled. The only reason people found out was because it was in the local papers. Apparently they did quite well selling things to people who bought out of sympathy. I hate people knocking at the door trying to sell anything. Not sure about the answer to the original question, sorry. Could you phone the local police station and ask? Maybe they'd have a quiet word with the sellers. Good luck :-)

My husband cringes if I open the door to people trying to sell products or a "faith" as I say "no thank-you" then shut the door :-O

I was at my friends house once when we had such a person call, he was a very nice you man, extremely polite and explained that he was an ex-criminal, even told us when we asked what he had done,  showed us his badge etc, and guess what I bought some plasters and a CD cleaner from him, I felt good about it that I was helping a young person to re-build his life.

I haven't had a door to door salesman for years or seen any around, (mind you I doubt that they would make the effort to come up a country road where I now live :-D)  I remember once upon a time they were a nuscience, which is why I guess I did not mind this particular young man.

I'm all for helping petty criminals to make a fresh start, but as long as only petty criminals are on this such scheme, I certainly would not wish to help a s*x offender or pardoned serial killer, or even someone who was once mentally insane, I hope that community safety is always put first.  But a petty thief I'm happy to give a fresh start too.

I object to cold calling full stop.
Probably as I am so feeble ,I either am quite firmly rude or dilly dally so much and end up buying whatever.
Always but things 'on offer', reckon mug is on my forehead!

Karen :(
