to any mums with an 18 year old, my child ben stopped when he was 17 but new rules say it can be paid up to 20 if child in education (not uni) and also all the time you get child tax credit. so i queried it and got child ben backdated a year! (he was at college doing a levels) i would not have known if i hadnt read it in a magazine! so anyone whos ben stoped once they were 17 can back claim (after 2006)

Think it depends on course at college, my daughter is just 18 and child benefit stopped as she was doing HND at college shes going on to uni after that.If it was an NC i wouldve still got my CB.

It has to be a Further Education course, not Higher Education so anything at HNC level or above is not included not just degrees and its the same whether they go to a College or a University.

They donot usally reinstate it once it has been stopped,
It is payable while they are in full time education, if they stop on at school untill they are 19years or college after 16.
That also opens the door to other benifits also being free dental care.
But! I would try!
As there would be no other income for them as jobseekers does not start untill 18yrs.
If noy they may have to make some kind of claim themselves.

I guess you have to tell the Child Benefits people that your child is staying on in ed.  Otherwise they would stop automatically, they're not mind readers.  There's probably a form to fill in on the yearly paperwork we get from them.

from what I remember there was a letter and a phone number to call when my daughter was 18.
