i have a 9 and a half week boxer pup and i wont her to get used to her lead being on, but ive had no luck she just chews it, ive tried toys and food to distracter, but that hasnt worked.
does anybodey has any other ideas?

She's
only 9 weeks old. Presumably, you got her when she was 6-8 weeks old? Still getting used to one another. Why the rush? What exactly do you want her to do when you have the lead on her? Heel/sit/stay?....forget about that for a bit. She's just too young.
If you put a leash on to get her accustomed to it and then just leave it on her, yes, she will start chewing for several reasons. It's normal puppy behavior.
If you're already trying to start formally training her, you're pushing her way too fast. You have to make it fun and very very short.... 5 minutes at the most, if even that. She really shouldn't be out on walks yet either... there's bugs out there she can easily catch and get very sick from. Enjoy your pup and relax...there's time in the future for education -- she's learning all the time even though it's not scheduled training ;) :)

Why not teach her the beginnings of heel work before you even put the lead on her - dog on left, titbit in left hand in front of dogs nose, keep hand close to leg and setting of with left leg, walk forward saying heel/close/whatever you are going to say and give titbit and praise lavishly after a few steps if pup still beside you.

Your puppy is very young and it is something that they all do and most grow out of with time. I wouldn't be concerned about it at the moment. Just persevere for the time being. Once your puppy can go out into the big wide world, you will find that its attention will be focused on other things. Enjoy your puppy!

theres no need to stress in a situation like this one....when we brought out first puppy (yorkshire terrier) we didnt dream of even introducing the lead until all vacinations were done, because there was no need in stressing the dog with a new item that it would find threatening, you need to introduce these things slowly in a set order, the dog will then feel sucure as it is at the right age 2 handle a lead and so forth.
we were lucky our dog imediatly dealed with the lead as soon as we clipped it on his harness.
if we had a problem we would always try this exercise:
1)take a large fluffy toy and tie a pie of string round its neck
2)then clip the lead on
3)drag the toy along the floor
4)then pretend tht the toy is alive praise it and tell the toy it is good!(lots of attentin giving)
5)your puppy will most definatly feel envious of all this attention given to the toy
6)then try the lead on your puppy, if the problen persista try this exercise agin

hi lauren,
my dogs are much more obedient if I do some practice with one of them first while the others watch! If I want them to wait all together - they keep looking at each other to see who is going to move first, its like a competition as to who can get it right first! so a bit a healthy competition does work with my dogs! my spaniels both try to 'outdo' each other to get praised first - if it works for you using a toy - good luck to you:) julie
