I am in the process of sending blood samples to the US for the above testing but am confused with the shipping from the UK direct to the US company who carries out the testing, has anyone else done this?  If you have would you mind indicating the carriers used, I need to get the samples to the US within 2-3 days.  Many thanks.

The only company that is suitable is Fedex & it is mega exepnsive. is it important that the tests are done now as there is a 20/20 clinic(scroll down the page) on the 1st September & you can mail the samples to the organizer & you get a double discount if you do this & the fedex fee is shared between all the people submitting samples which reduces the coat an awful lot. You need to contact the organizer & get the code & snail mail address & cost of the fedex etc from her

I've done this twice now via Foxbarton BC's & it has run like clockwork

Would just like to second Moonmaidens suggestion of joining in the 20/20 clinic if you can wait. Val is very very good and has been running these sessions since the DNA tests became available she will even send you the tracking number for the shipment so that you know when the samples arrive at Optigen.

here in france  is genindexe .. they do all the testing, dna, pra, color etc .. think they are much cheaper and it is  officially approved by our kennel club here in france aswell! please google for their site/address! i have all dogs dna/pra tested! most also for heart  .. just have send in  bloodsample for induced excercise collaps aswell ( the last still only done in USA, all the other tests available in france.

I could not see a PRCD-PRA testing for SBT nor TNS/CEA/CL for Border Collies on the Genindexe site

Why not try the Post Office?  They used to have a service that was supposed to take 3-5 days - mine arrived a week late but as it's DNA it didn't matter too much.

The timing does matter with blood samples & if I remember right only Fedex is acceptable.

It is much cheaper to send them via a 20/20 clinic

We had 4 of our girls Optigen tested end of last year and sent them off Fed-Ex, cost around £50 for next day delivery, which I didn't mind paying, I could track it all the way right up to my samples being signed for at reception of Optigen, I think if I sent them via the Post Office I would worry in case they didn't arrive, they received the samples Tuesday 11am and I had all my results by Friday 5pm.

We've sent all our blood samples to Optigen using the PO's Airsure service - not as quick as Fedex but you get a tracking number etc so you know when your samples have arrived. All our samples arrived safely (although obviously not next day) so we were quite happy with the service.

How much did that one cost JaneS?

Can't afford to do my gang yet, but was hoping to at the end of this year.

I can't remember the exact price but it was well under £10 at the time (think the up to date prices are on Royal Mail's website if you wanted to check)

Airsure - that was the one I used :)  It worked fine for the requirements (although it was a bit late).

Many thanks for all your help.

Does anyone know how much DNA testing to determine the parents of a dog would cost?  This is a hypothetical question based on an argument today and I want to make sure I am right.  Can this be tested locally or would these have to be sent away?

When a fellow breeder had a surprise litter she sent away the samples from the possible sires, mother and pups to the AHT.
