I've just left our older lady in the vets to be spayed. After a bad season a few weeks ago i've been watching her closely and sure enough i discovered a pus like dischanrge this morning. The vet seems to be experienced enough but i can't help being worried, at 9 years old and still being a little over weight its very worrying her going under the knife.

Have you guys had success with Pyo spays?

My boxer bitch had an acute and sudden infection and was spayed as an emergency. A week later you would have never known she'd had it.
I had thought that she was well up until her illness, but post -spay, I realised that she had been just a little below par for some time.
Now one year later at 7 years old she is just like a pup again.Fabulous!

Good luck.

My first BC developed a closed Pyrometra @ 11 & she had a leaky heart valve, she sailed through the op & lived for another 5  & a bit years. She was like a young bitch again afterwards & this was in 1982 !

Thanks!
I think she'll be okay but you can't help but worry! Its the waiting thats the worst bit!
It was difficult to diagnose as she had no temperature, they couldn't tell from palpating, she's only been off her food this morning and was quite happy in herself, it was just the discharge that gave it away. The ultrasound was shocking, the vet was surprised.

I don't know what to do with myself lol, i hate waiting.

Well she came home at 6 o'clock yesterday evening. After an explanation of how difficult the procedure it was and how ill i could expect her to be she shocked the Vet by skipping out to the car.
She had a small supper i went for a bath and Mum watched her. She scratched her underside and made it bleed and caught a bit of something and out came a 5 inch piece of tissue that i can only imagine had been stuck between a stitch and the wound...so there was blood all over the place and my mum in a right old flap.
Hubby was stuck in Telford until after midnight and i dont drive so it was frantic phone calls to the emergency vet 45 miles away. I'm told to cover it with a T shirt...i used medipore pads that i had left over from an op i had a bit back and the bleeding stopped so the vet said to keep an eye on her and get her in if it starts again. Medipore was kept on to help clotting and i got her in this morning for a check over with her own vet. He told me he had expected more bleeding than she had had...i wasnt told to expect any lol but was alarmed at the tissue that had escaped her wound.

But on the whole it's gone very well, she's bright and happy, hasn't stopped wagging her tail since she came home and her appetite is amazingly back to normal.

Thanks to all for their reassurances, you were right as usual!

Sorry to pick this up again but She's bleeding through her wound 3 days on. I'm worried that the vet hasnt done something right!
We took her back in on sturday morning and everything looked fine and she seemed to be doing really well. We kept the wound dressed with e long mepore dressing but now she's seeping through. She has an appointment in an hour and a half but i was wondering if this was typical? I dont want the Vet trying to cover it up if its something he's done, or not done.

Thanks in advance.
