Some people may remember I wrote about a lovely tabby that appeared a while ago.  I asked about - no-one has or has lost a tabby cat.  I was going to take her to the vet to have her scanned to see if there was a chip, but she disappeared, but now is back.  And she seems to have rather suspicious looking bulges in the region of her tummy!  I don't know anything about cats.  How long is gestation?  And how long after showing initial signs until she's likely to give birth (unless of course she's just been eating a lot!)

She is back in the eaves of my stables - and I'm off to Ireland for a week tomorrow.  Great!  I'll get my partner to keep an eye out for her.  But if she does have kittens in the eaves, how long til they are mobile?  It's quite a long way up!  I'm going to check out the place she's been sleeping to see if she is making a nest.

I think she may well have a home somewhere else too - hopefully she'll go there to have her kittens, if she is pregnant.  But she's often in her spot in the eaves .....

Gestation for cats is 9 weeks, like dogs ;)  Without seeing her it's impossible to say when she would be due :(

Have you tried putting up flyers asking for her owner to get in touch ?  also a notice in the local vets surgeries, shops etc might bring info?

Pregnancy in a queen you tell by the teats. 3 weeks after mating they turn pink, 4 weeks after mating they double in size -but the size isn't as obvious if she has had 2 or more litters before. But other than that, you cannot tell when she is due, there is no way.

Most cat pregnancies are 65 days. 63 is also normal, and anything up to 7o is perfectly normal. Queens cannot give birth earlier unlike bitches, the kittens just won't make it. So 9-10 weeks.

Kittens start moving about up on their legs at 3 weeks, but won'l walk PROPERLY until at least 4 weeks, should start solid food at around 6 weeks, and should stay with their mum for THIRTEEN WEEKS. The very sad thing is that most moggy kittens are taken away much much too early, before they are anywhere near properly weaned. They do need to suckle for a the very least 10 weeks but preferably longer. I've had kittens not even taking solids until 10 weeks -although moggies tend to be more advanced than pedigrees. You don't really want to encourage solid food already at 3 to 4 weeks as some people do as their organs just aren't mature enough to cope with it. 6 weeks is a good age to introduce solids at first.

The very best and safest thing would be to try to catch her and confine her to a cage or small room. Is there a local rescue that perhaps could help you out?

How do you mean in a queen?
Does that mean a pregnant female cat?

A queen is the correct name for a  female cat, just as a tom is the correct name for a male cat.
