Hello CD People...Just had a telephone convo with a fellow breeder and we both couldnt agree on ..
What age do you move the puppies downstairs/other room/family room..
She says hers are downstairs in a puppy room and kept eye on all day but at night left from around 12pm to 6 am
I said 3 week ish depending on thriving etc.....i have toy breed
they always stay in bedroom with us upstairs away from the other dogs ie..bitches sister mother siblings & for quietness although I dont have young children just i feel i want to keep all in our bedroom as to any happenings that occur during night...dont know if that makes sense...watched over as much as possible.
However the bitch i have has been Widdling on our Super King size bed with one of tho mattresses that shape to body...so murder to clean I do have a protecter etc but still..just thrown out the downie as its now really smelling and the washing down and drying of the different parts ..i am going to a supermarket to buy a new cheap one!
With Scots Downpours the tumble dyer is taking a battling!!
Ahhhh!!! Hubby is NOT happy as its always his end!!!!

I leave mine upstairs for as long as I can stand the noise which is usually 4-5 weeks although my miniature schnauzer pup was earlier because he was a solo puppy so I didnt want him becoming too isolated with no litter mates and a mum that wasnt really keen on motherhood!

I have my puppies in the breakfast room, in a whelping box within an 8ft x 8ft enclosure, and I sleep with them on a folding bed. I stay with them at night until they are about 3 weeks old, by which time, they are half weaned and if mum is happy to be away from them for 5 or 6 hours, (she usually is), then after I've given them their midnight feed and they are all asleep, I quietly put a dish of soaked dry puppy food in with them in case they wake up peckish and stagger up to my bed for a proper few hours sleep.

We had ours in the utility room downstairs right from the start, it is just off the lounge so nice and quiet. Once they were 4 weeks old or so I added a puppy pen onto the whelping box so they had space for sleeping and playing, and gave them plenty of time rampaging around the lounge and garden as well. :-)

I normally move them at two weeks, though in the past when they were too hot upstairs have moved them down at 10 days.

This litter were moved to the kitchen today (16 days) as their Granddad was staying with me until yesterday.

They were ready to have a run attached to a crate rather than the whelping box as they were already peeing and pooing on their own.

They had eyes open and were up on their feet at 10 days.

They are now in the same area the other dogs have free access too, so I can no longer leave food down ad lib for Mum.

Mine are born either in the dining room or the study where I can spend most time with them yet it's out of the way of the other dogs. I sleep downstairs with them for the first few nights till I know that the bitch has got the hang of managing them then I go back up to my bed (but with the doors open so I can hear any squeaking). At about three weeks they move into the utility room where there's a washable floor.

I have mine in the bedroom until about 3 weeks, then they get moved down to the dining room where the other sleep. At that point I put them in the box but in a puppy pen so they can start to learn paper training.

I think if they were upstairs for any longer my OH would leave me lol :-D

Well...another night of my Darling Hubby went to sleep on the sofa!
I am sure my bitch is doing now to really Tick him off!!
I did block her path way to the bed ...goodness knows how she does it!!!

However I did decide 2 more sleeps and they will have to go downstairs not for hubbys sake.... for my tumble dryer sake..its defo going to pack in very soon

Thank you for the replies...puts my mind at rest...its okish to move them now x
