In the past I have been told by my vet to give Asprin to my dogs and have heard of people being told to give Paracetamol. However I have never heard of Tramadol being prescribed but my vet having taken my bitch of PLT for a few days has replaced it with Tramadol saying it is not an anti-inflammatory but will help with pain.

Anyone else used it and did it help with pain?

Thank you that is of interest. The dosage given seems to have held her discomfort at a bearable level but I am sure both she and I will be glad when she can return to the PLT and she is able to get up and down and enjoy her exercise again.

One of my bitches was put on tramadol for a long term injury.  This was prescribed by an orthopaedic specialist and she said it was to help stop the brain to injury pattern, if that makes sense!  The specialist felt that part of her injury was in her mind and this was where the tramadol was supposed to come in. I didn't find it made any difference but it does of course depend on the type of injury.

tramadol contains morhine, didnt no dogs could take it thats a first for me... i cant take it, it makes feel spaced out, but great stuff if it suites you,

I broke my finger recently and had to have an operation. I was given tramadol, never realised they had morphine in them, no wonder they killed the pain.
They must work wonders on the dogs then...then again i am a wuss with pain.

All of the above caused by my dog yanking on the lead to chase a rabbit and me not being able to release my finger quick enough.

Well my girl is pretty miserable and I have decided to put her back on the PLT a day sooner than planned, sure the Tramadol must have helped but not really enough.

hi i have tramadol for my MS it is quite strong and yes it is a pain killer and it is morphine based and  a very effective pain control. i am sure the vet prescribed it because he knows best, dogs quite often are given the same medication as adults. my newfy had a swelling and pain in the hind leg and was prescribed amytripline a mild dose which is used in adults for depression and as a pain killer it works on the brains pain receptors. dog may be a little sleepy on tramadol but will feel much better soon good luick
