Have been asked to post this by somebody I know for some advice.

She has a litter of puppies at the moment. They are 2 weeks old tomorrow and everything has been going well they are all putting loads of weight on and thriving. The biggest bitch on Saturday though after feeding started screaming and then stopped breathing and apparently started going blue. They rushed her to the vets who said they couldn't find anything wrong and sent her home again. This doesn't happen everytime she feeds but has continued happening sometimes since then. The vet thought she might have trapped wind???? Doesn't sound right to me but thought someone on here would know.

Edited to remove breed....sorry it suddenly hit me as I posted it we aren't meant to put breeds!!!

Your friend could try giving the puppy a small amount of infacol before the puppy goes on the teat.

This happened to me some years ago in a litter from days old with one pup who wnet rigid and stopped breathing, but I was able to revive him.

The vet suspected Liver shunt, he was put to sleep at 12 days old.  He started out the largest pup.

Sadly this happened to me in january, it happened a few times and always when feeding, puppy had a rattle sound too and then his growth slowed down at about 3 weeks, as things progressed i suspected a heart defect and sadly my vet confirmed at 4 weeks old that he had a hole in his heart and i made the VERY difficult decision to pts, it broke my heart as at 4 weeks they have little characters.
i do hope this puppy is just being over greedy and it is nothing serious, just keep an eye on that little one and let us know what happens.
i wish your friend luck :)

Hi

Thank you everybody for your replies. Well she rang this morning to say 2 more puppies are now doing this too. She has had them all back to the vet who has been in touch with a specialist. These 3 puppies are also now quite along way behind their brother and sister in growth, they are noticabely smaller, these 3 were previously the biggest. The specialist has said that they are still too young to scan to see what is going on inside as he won't be able to get a clear picture and they have put them on a course of antibiotics just in case it is an infection although the vet today said she isn't convinced it is at all.
