Well my last delivery went normal as usual. When I went to feed the minced chicken there were maggots in it!!! yuck!!! This food is meant to be FRESH british meat, fit for human consumption!!!! Well I write to the company and apparently there was a bad batch that they thought was 100% dealt with. But some slipped through the net. So they said they would compensate me one box of mined chicken...Alto of people are saying this isnt enough...Its a company thats been recommended to me as well....any thoughts??

all they are required to do is refund the product, anything else is simply a gesture from them so a free box as well is pretty reasonable. the thing is its pretty unlikely that nothing will ever go wrong with producing a product and they've offered you a good gesture, i'd take it and be happy.

i know its grotty but as no harm was done thats all the law provides you with.

btw i work in customer service for this type of thing so know what i'm on about :)

Sometimes things like this happen and I'm sure they did all they could to prevent the stuff going to sale. They have said they would compensate you so be happy :) they haven't just fobbed you off!

I would report it to Trading Standards and Environmental Health as this is a human health issue too.  It might be a one off but if a few complaints come in they might want to look at what might be going wrong here.

if issues of ours go to trading standards they ask us to investigate and tell them then they tell the cust, that is human foods. i think she also couldn't take the gesture then but not sure.

You would hope that would do rather more than invite investigation by the company itself if they had several reports though wouldn't you?

if multiple complaints about the same product come through an EPW (emergency product withdrawl) is actioned- adverts in store, in the national press, the current stock (if suspected) will be removed from sale etc.

sounds like they tried to do this and something slipped through

essentially the supplier needs to show a duty of care and due dilligence that they have done their best to stop the faulty product going out and the product needs to be refunded. i think the op is within their rights to ask for a report though if wanted

i imagine if they knew they had a prob they will have had to contact each of the outlets that sell their food though and have that batch pulled.

Well, yes if they are conciencious but my point is if Trading Standards/Environmental Health received several complaints they might want to take a closer look themselves.

we've had far wider spread issues than that i'm sure but all they've wanted was a report from our suppliers. there really isn't that much help for food consumers :(

But you are known to them and have an established reputation with them but presumably even then if the level of complaint was sufficient they would take a closer look.

yes they would but its limited what they do. they would only check that everything to prevent it had been done as thats all a supplier is required to do. i was very surprised when i first found out how little they do in checking up on this sort of thing.

I'm not, you are a large, established firm and I doubt you would have achieved that without systems  in place to keep "incidents" to a minimum but whether the same could be found in a small dog meat company must be a little more questionable.
Everything might well be fine but if things are reported a picture may emerge that would suggest the need to look closer.  If nobody bothers it won't.

i doubt it, but the op's within her rights to go to them but every supplier in the country, no matter if they supply for us or anyone else (and the people who supply us supply pretty much everyone), have to comply with the exact requirements of the law. they are frequently and thouroughly checked for complience. the laws the same for big firms or small ones, and i bet we get more complaints going to the EHO as people believe large companies should be in some way infallible.

big suppliers give them more reason to be checked and the eho is not allowed to treat different companies differently based on sheer size

Is the dog meat you buy frozen? Do you leave it out to defrost? I always put my defrosting dog meat in a sealed container but last week my daughter left the container lid slightly ajar and by the time I noticed - about 20 minutes later - a fly had crawled inside and laid eggs on the meat.

I don't know for certain but would assume that fly eggs and maggots wouldn't survive freezing in which case the eggs/maggots would have arrived during the thawing process and probably weren't present when you bought the meat. If you buy your dog meat fresh then that is a different scenario altogether and would explain how it could have arrived with maggots already in it.

I have a feeling this is the same rather well known supplier of raw food for dogs that several of us had problems with last year re. wrong orders, half defrosted meat, slimey stinking chicken etc etc. I had pig legs absolutely smothered in poo delivered once If it is them, many people will no longer use them. Tried to do a search for the previous thread about it but can't seem to find it for some reason...

Sounds like the maggots were already there if the company have admitted there was a "bad batch"..?

I buy my raw from a well known company - one dog eats everything put in front of him but the younger one will often turn up his nose at the chicken - hmmm you have got me thinking now. Perhaps the younger dog is just discerning rather than fussy.

the meat I buy is frozen. Meant to be anyway. I have ordered 4 times, and this last time the meat was starting to defrost. Still very frozen but getting squishy. The maggots were already hatched and wiggiling around when the meat was packed. They were frozen when they arrived to me. There is more than one bag affected. And by the sounds of it, the same company is at fault. I am not sure who to go with, or what to do now. They offered to replace the box of minced chicken, now I dont know if its even worth it? I might get one more delivery from them then thats it.

Found the other thread here. A few other companies are mentioned so might be worth a look.

hi if its the company begining with ''L'' the last two deliveries i  have had from them smell rotten and foul i know tripe isnt a pleasent smelling food but this stuff is disgusting i have now cancelled my order and gone elsewhere i complained on the first month then the second month it was stinking and as op said had maggots crawling through some of the bags and that was tripe and not chicken.

I've had similar problems with Landywoods, the meat is cheap but not if you've got to throw it away.

I had one order from them....Never never again..I have now found a new supplier who I am
very pleased with...

Lizzie, (Harley) I had the same problem re flies/eggs. I had gone out to a show, left instructions on feeding and to make sure the lid was put back on tight BUT it wasn't. When I came home and went to give the dogs' their evening meal there were loads of eggs and a couple of dead flies (drowned in the blood) and I had to throw the lot away, dogs never got fed till very late waiting for meat to thaw out - in a sealed container! Also, a few months ago I had chicken & tripe which the dogs wouldn't eat, which was strange cos they eat anything, but they just wouldn't touch it and it stank worse than usual. Got a replacement pack which was better. Now the same things' happened again this week.  Don't know why but this is just too 'green' and slimey to contain any chicken in it but so far they are eating it so it can't be as bad as the other batch. Have ordered just chicken and tripe on its own for this week, leaving the mixed packs out.

they are crediting me for the rotten box of meat and giving me a credit for one more box.... There has been loads of negative things about this company. I am going to switch

thats the problem with these types of gesture, you have to go back to the problem place again...
