My daughter is 10, and desperate to raise money for the NCDL. She's getting quite worked up about it, and yes, we'll sponsor her to run round the block or whatever, but that seems a bit pointless. Any suggestions of something she could do on her own, or that we could help her with?
Many thanks.

What about a sponsored dog walk?

Thank you.

That was her suggestion. Great minds. . .

Hi Merlin,it is excellent for children to do something for charity it gives them an insite into the not too perfect world and also gives them a sense of doing something about it .
My suggestion would be say a sponsored silence, this can be done in complete safety of your home or at school, the dog walk is a good idea too as long as she is safe maybe arrange for several children to do the walk maybe on a sunday round the local country park how about a special rosette for the one raising the most money or for each taking part they neednt cost a lot.
Another idea to make it fun is fancy dress dog walk,if you are going to have a lot of people walking I think you just let the local Police know if your crossing roads etc.
If she has chosen a Charity let them know you are doing it as they will probably send you a letter of authorisation to raise the money we send a little badge/T shirt and certificate for children doing anything for us other may do the same I know charities are almost most grateful for any amout raised.
Good luck .

Thanks for your suggestions.

I was wondering - what is your charity? It's nice that you acknowledge what people do.

Hi Merlin, Mattie runs Labrador Rescue in the North West, they have a website www.helpalabrador.co.uk, sure she won't mind me telling you. Ingrid

Would your daughter be doing her fund raising with any other children with dogs? If so, as it is getting to the bad weather season, how about a sponsored stay, with sponsoring being paid by the minute? You could have small prize for the 'winner'. She may find that a local dog training club may want to join in as well, to help swell the funds.

Thanks for your replies. I've been away - half term.

I had to laugh, Jean, at the sponsored stay. Per minute? you say. Can we swop dogs?

Ah well, back to the training . . .

Have just re-read this. It sounded wrong, Jean, as though I were laughing at your ideas. Not so. I like the idea of involving other children/training group. Thanks.

You may laugh but I took part in a couple of sponsored stays with my previous malamutes! The current one wouldn't be able to do a stay if I nailed his paws to the floor, lol. So, yes, we can swap dogs if you wish!;)
For those who are not too confident of their dogs, they could put their dogs in a 'down' and sit beside them with a loose lead. It is quite good fun, and it is amazing how some dogs show a marked improvement afterwards as their owners have practised so hard prior to the event. It also can help make the children more involved with training the family dog and encourage them to try for more 'tricks'.
The time to be sponsored by can, of course be changed to suit the circumstances.
Local papers are also always interested in this sort of event and will usually send a reporter round to take piccies etc. Just make sure that the person who started the event off is the one credited by the media.
