Jo, lovely to see your name on site again. Hope you are well.  thanks for info on Scalibor collars.  who do you find cheapest and what size do you find is best for our breed?

are the tick collars safe to wear?are there any side effects?i saw one by bob martin today but wasn't sure whether you can use them if you are also using frontline?

maggie leg kept hurting her and all of a sudden she'd scream holding her leg in the ear.  this was becoming increasingly worse so i took her to the vets yesterday and it turns out there was a huge tick in between the pads of her feet.  the nurse managed to get it and she was screaming crying and even weed on the vet, poor thing.  there was a tiny one attached to this one (which was light so think its female).  ive now found about 7 or 8 ( dead in her bed this morn) so starting to wonder if eggs are hatching on her?ive now asked 2 vets and they both say no but this one had been there ages and there was a tiny one attached and shes got so many.  im not even letting her go on grass at the mo untl she's clear!!any ideas?!!

i also asked about using a tick shampoo and they said not to bother because it will just do the same as frontline although im thinking maybe it couldnt hurt?

im also worried they are living in the house!!looked in the shops and the sprays look like they are just for fleas!

advice please!!!

Hi Senga

Well - we're OK - still reeling , though!    I get the large size Scalibor, and cut a bit off to fit, which I save in the original packet and fix to a collar later on.    But I'm a bit of a skinflint like that!     I get mine through the vets, normally, or through Vetmedweb.

Never had any side effects, though all dogs are different of course.     Wouldn't use it on a pregnant bitch, but then I wouldn't use anything then anyhow.

Never want to lose another dog to Lymes ever again,....

Jo

Im always checking the dogs, I dont like the thought of blood suckers but Advantix does not seem to affect them at all (the dogs) If its meant to repell ticks it doesn't as we still get them but they are tiny. We mainly walk in woodland and open parks so its mainly small reddish/brown deer ticks. We do have sheep grazed close by and they do get a walk there and the occasional sheep tick. Jake has had one and Whistler none.
Im obviously lucky with ticks I have the O'Tom at home and at work in case I discover one.
