My 3 month old has taken to humping bedding, toys etc. Why would a bitch so young do this? She is quite a character and is full on.

She's doing it because she can!

I have a cavalier bitch whose 'party piece' is humpng her toy seal.....rocking it forward until she's resting on her head...... then she gives a final little grunt....she then stands up with her hair on end. Although she's done it from puppyhood,at five years old she's just about given it up!!!

My youngest is now 6 months old and tries to hump my boys. For her it is more of a dominance thing (She wants to be queen of the castle, my other girls say not likely) but I have never had one do it to bedding or toys! Even my fellas get out of that habit of humping things (other than ladies on heat) by the time they are a year old.
Maybe she will grow out of it eventually.

our Boston bitch does this more so when she has been in season to which she has just finished so the toys that she favours for this pleasure have to be hidden other wise she is just constantly doing it, last week i caught her with our 16 year old persian cat between her legs poor cat just sat there out of five bitches this is the first to do this, also when she has got one of her humpy toys she growls at you if you get near her.

could be she sexualy maturing or she going to ALPHA BITCH

Definitely don't think Alpha bitch, she roles over when she sees other dogs etc. She is definitely a full on dog though, think I'm going to have lots of fun with her.

My 1 yr old Wire Viz and my 3 yr old Smooth viz do this to my hubby...particularly so after they have just been fed.
Any ideas as to why?.
I was thinking along the dominance lines as he isnt as strict with them as I am and would rather just play with them all day than disipline them
Debby, I have only just caught up with posts Your post cheered me up , I could not stop giggling. I can imagine the expression on your cat's face. Ooh I feel better now, despite my heavy coldl

we used to get "tripple decker bullies" at mum and dads...tio would try to hump kizzy...then keeper would hump him
while he was trying to mount kiz (fyi, this was quickly stopped, well as soonas the giggles could be controlled, as tio was not getting to have his end away with anyone)
was so funny, they'd walk about for a few feet like that lol
i have two girl in season atm and they keep taking turns on each other my boy (neutered) looks at them wondering what on earth they are doing. lol
but they never do it without being season.
my mums fcr did it her hole life but she liked the washing basket the tall round ones she would knock it over and hump like mad. (she was spayed)

Our girl is a serial humper! I feel so sorry for our boy - she grabs his leg and pulls it out from under him so he falls over and then starts off on his face and humps her way down his body! She's been speyed though so its definately not linked to her seasons!

My foster dog is a humper, though i think it's just excited play with him :) not use to it as my two have never really done the old humping thing :-p
Our 8mth old collie did this from being 6 wks old with a toy monkey that was twice the size of him! It made for a disturbing site! however we've just had him 'done' and now he ignores monkey altogether except for a wistful glance every now and again.

A male I expect it from, although my lads have never done it but a girl!! She is a sweetie though so I shouldn't complain!
ive had such a laugh reading all these ,our girls do the humping thing when in season but the one thats not in season is the one humping lol :)

my puppy did this when she was little but only to my border dog i dont have him now so she doesnt do it anymore

what a read - these are sooo funny, dogs just dont have any shame do they!
On a serious note i have a ddb bitch who does this to my boy, but only at bed time when i put them into their bed end of their kennel, think she is just being very dominant or maybe she sees bedtime as playtime! wink wink :)
Oh well, whatever floats their boats!!!

Toolz, I had to post on this thread...I have a cavalier bitch exactly like this, except her victim is Harold, a toy hedgehog! She humps in exactly the same manner and when she's had enough of humping she will turn and look at me, all pleased with herself. She does it a lot when she's in season, and of course she has to show any visitors that we have what she can do to Harold :-O
Our Samoyed bitch also tries to hump Gypsy whenever she gets excited - and coincidentally this was when my poor friend was round last night. She didn't know where to look, bless her. Dogs eh!

Both my bitches like humping. Misty likes to hump Foxy but Foxy is not allowed to retaliate, so definately a dominance thing going on. Misty especially like to fold her piece of vet bed into a nice tidy square and then pick it up by the corner that would be the centre of the bed if it were flat and have a good old hump - so funny. Foxy met a really lovely black lab the other day and tried to hump him! Dominating little madam.

Our girl only humps Turbo when new people come round lol think shes trying to tell them she is top dog lol
Turbo dont mind tho, hes always frisky being a young male and either way is fine for him! lol
I'll never forget being woken up one night and seeing a figure on our bed going ten to the dozen on my leg, I truly thought it must be hubby having a strange sleep walking dream (very strange) but then felt him next to me and was terrified that I had some weird burglar. :-D I fllicked my night lamp on scared of what I would find and found my girl having a jolly good time.

Hubby woke up and she preceeded to hump him. :-D
Turns out my brother who was staying with us at the time had left the dog gate open and our girl who was in season at the time and obviously desperate to mate had wandered upstairs seeking something to hump. :-D
It's the only time she has ever done it, after her fun she was sent back downstairs and after hubby and I stopped laughing we finally fell back to sleep. :-)
My mothers terrier is a shocker though, you only have to sit down and she was on your leg, she stops when told, but has never grown out of it, even her entire males look at her in disgust.

Very funny my girl is only 18 months and she has never done it but I have two young boys and they are always at it with each other!!!!:-0
LOL. My bitches seem to start the humping just before 1st season comes on! It's so funny to watch, we filmed our 2nd youngest and sent it to our friends, the thing is she is so tiny and her humping buddy pink fully cat is about 3 sizes bigger! it made eveybody smile :-) :-) ;-)
Can anyone tell me, my lovely Newfy boy is 14 weeks, and he has started humping anything!!! cushions, my leg, jumping on my 7 & 9 year old, his cuddly toys.....will he grow out of this? I don't want to make a big fuss of this with him I just pull him off and say 'NO', am I doing this right?
I want him to enjoy puppyhood, I know he has to start sometime but at 14 weeks!!!! can anyone give me some advice as I want to show him and as he grows, I would die if he jumped up at anything he sees if I was walking him as I wouldn't be able to pull him back!! so again, ADVICE PLEASE .... thank you ever so much

Hi Newfidays,
You are doing the right thing by not making a big issue out of this humping going on, but you can certainly make him realise that humping your children or you is not allowed ever by telling him off best to grab him before he climbs on. If you don't want him going at your cushions again yank him off and say a sharp No and take the sexy item away.. My lad has always had a cuddly teddy that I let him hump until he got bored and they will have their fun and then stop, its much better to let him do it to his own things as it is a very harmless pastime. The only embarrassment is if visitors come to visit and he's there doing his thing while your having a cup of tea & chat ! just put him out into the kitchen on his bed area and close the door and let him do his thing there. Its all part of him learning boundaries and the rules of good manners, he's only a baby so keep gently correcting him for any undesirable behaviour and stop it before he gets to 18 months :)

All of mine do it (one neutered dog, three entire bitches aged four, two and 6months). After a while you have to seperate them into different rooms/crates so they can get their breath back!
They do it pretty much constantly if one of them is on heat (understandable) but sometimes they just do it because theyve gotten over excited chasing each other around the garden *rolls eyes*.
The six month old has just started now, so I'm just waiting for her season to kick in.
Never do it to inanimate objects, just each other (randy buggers lol)

I don't know how I missed this thread....what a chuckle! :-)
Oscar has never done it, not once - well not that I've seen. Strange really as it seems that most dogs do.
