HiYa all!
I am in a dilema as I dont know which wormer to use on my pregnant bitch,
I read another somewhere   that Panacur can makes dogs sick and have a bad reaction,
but my vet has recomended this to me.
I usually use Drontal with no problems, Which do you think I should use?
Also how often should I be worming now she's pregnant?
Thanks
Joanne

Hi Joanne,  my bitch has just had 7 pups on Tuesday and my vet gave her panacur at day 42 and was told to give her just the one, she didnt vomit, and didnt have any reaction, just sprinkled it on her food, then told me to worm her again 2 weeks after pups born.

I would stick to what you know is good with your girl, we've always used Drontal, although my vet recommends using Panacur and would have to order in Drontal for us, so we buy it online!  Both mum and pups have Drontal and we've not had a problem with it so far.

My girls are wormed just before mating and then not again until after whelping and at the same time as the pups.

Panacur is given daily from day 40 of pregnancy (not once ?) until two days post whelp. Info can be found google 'panacur data sheet'. Worms are passed from the bitch to the puppies not only over the placenta but in the milk also hence the reason for the long dosing period (~25 days)

I worm pre mating then not again until pups are born then worm again when I worm the puppies at 3 wks , 5 wks and 8 wks

I use panacur paste  with no problems just make sure you use the correct dose for the weight once puppies have gone I go back to drontal as it is easier.

i was told to worm my puppies at 2, 4, 6, 8 weeks, and tell the new owners to worm them at 10 and 12 weeks then at 6 months 9 months & 12  months then 2-3 times a year after that, but I guess all vets are different.

Thanks Everyone for all your replies.
I will just go with what the vet said with the panacur,
Then once shes had the pups I will go back to drontal.
Thanks again Everyone!
