My golden retriever paddy who's 7 months, vomits back water after drinking.
Ive tried making his dish higher on a stand, ive tried limiting his water intake and the speed he drinks
He does not vomit food.. ever

Any ideas?

Is he actually vomiting or does he fill his mouth up too full and it comes pouring out?  My golden drinks greedily and drops it all over the floor as he walks away!

no, he actully l vomits the water back up. Like projectile vomiting.

I have one that does that, think they just take in more than the stomach is prepared to accept. Made worse if they decide to play.

Thats what i thought, but ive tried only giving him a small amount and he still does it

I have one that does this too, especially first thing in the morning if he drinks too much in one go.  I tend to limit how much water is in the bowl first thing, then let him have a longer drink later on.

Is this after he has bee running around and getting hot?

No, it is if he has a long drink when he wakes up.  He walks a few steps and projectile vomits it.  Sometimes it will happen at other times, but guaranteed first thing in the morning.

I have one that did exactly the same.  The only thing that worked for him is to not have the water too cold.  I use quarter hot and three quarters cold when filling the bowl.  Seems to work!!

oooooohhhhhh nice to know Ebba is relativly normal!!!!!
She does it, mainly in the morning, and all that comes up is water!!!!
It is normally the first drink n the morning when she comes down in the morning from bed!!!
Will see if the warm water works as well :)

Maddies first morning drink used to be bought back up, and I did notice it was when the water was fresh and cold so I now make it a bit warmer, seems to work :)

Xrays came back fine, didnt seem to be anything abnormal
Dish is still on the stand
water is still warmer
and small amounts
Still vomiting....

Hi Donna, has your vet taken any blood tests?

You say he does it mainly in the morning but never food.

How about feeding him first before allowing water, maybe that will hold it down.  Or even mix a bit of water in the food.
Its a really strange problem, could even be a random behaviour pattern with it being just water.

Or how about give him a load of ice cubes so the dog has to lick it and only gets very small amounts at a time as it melts

Plus will he bring up something like milk?

Sounds like at this stage anything is worth a shot

No its not just in the mornings, its all the time
Cant give him milk as he just gets the runs... he has a sensitive stomach anyway regarding food
No bloods taken as yet
I have given him ice cubes and he is fine with those
Just water.. is the problem

Its probably not this but I had a bitch who used to vomit water, it got increasingly worse and she was eventually blood tested.  Unfortunately, she had cancer of the liver, she was 5 years old.  I don't mean to frighten you but it may be worth eliminating.  As I said I'm sure its not this, just me being a bit sensitive about the symptom.

My Puppy started regurgitating mainly water...
Then she processed to throwing up food also.
She was taken to vets and had an infection in her stomach and sphincter which had caused the acid from her stomach to leak in her esophagus (sorry if I have spelled the words incorrectly!).
The vet thinks she has had the infection for a while and our older dog dying caused it to flare up, cause the big symptoms and be found!
The infection has now been treated and she is on a road to recovery but it will take a while for her to completely heal if ever, she might have scarring for the rest of her life.

I would definitely get your puppy checked by vet, maybe get an endoscopy done as he could for example have a lazy esophagus sphincter meaning he might be also suffering from heartburns etc and might need help with that. If all that area is inflamed it could be enough to make him be sick after drinking water...

Our puppy was not really showing anything that would made us to feel she is in pain (I understand heartburn can be pretty painful) but she must have been as endoscopy showed ulcering where the acid had been doing the damage.
Looking back, only thing that was different was that she was drinking little more than usually for few months before it all was found.
Drinking would have made the burning feeling go away.
Reason why I'm mentioning this is that she definitely was not drinking worryingly large amounts taking in consideration it is hot and summertime but more little drinks here and there which for a puppy that loves water (mouthing, playing, anything to do with water)did not make us alarmed...

Obviously we are now feeling guilty of not realising anything was wrong before the infection caused her to get properly ill, get high temperature etc...

Noora, my Paddy has never vomited food up to me knowledge... Only ever water. He's 9 months now.
It only ever water.... he was on various treatment for heartburn etc but did no good
He's a concious barium xray series.. but wouldnt lie still at the crucial moment
I asked if they could do it when he goes to be castrated but it has to be done while he is awake

you shouldnt feel guilty you have done your best getting the problem sorted x

Do you have a water softener ?? One of my Mastiffs used to do this and it turned out that the water softener which at the time was connected to the cold tap in the kitchen, was the cause.
