Dizzy went out in the garden last night perfectly fine and came in unable to put one of her back legs to the ground. She is obviously in some distress and pain (she never makes a fuss). I have booked her in to see the vet this morning but after a bit of a fight - I was told they were very busy, would be fitting us in, could not tell us who we would see (there are a couple we wouldn't want to). Just wondered whether you would give her a couple of days and see how she gets on or whether I should go with my gut feeling. I do not usually rush down the vet with a limp if the girls are OK in themselves but this does seem more serious. I just don't want to waste their time if it isn't necessary.
Thank you

I would take her. From your description it doesn't sound like a simple small sprian that they sometimes get and the vets initial advice may be to give her a pain killer and rest her, but she sounds as if she needs the pain killer.
Thank you, I am glad you agree. I did give her some metacam last night but it didn't seem to help at all so she probably needs something stronger. I have felt all up and down the leg and her paw with no response, she just won't put it to the floor. Any ideas? We will be leaving for vet in 15 mins so will let you know what they say.

I agree, best to take her too the vets.
Metacam can take up to 7 days before it shows to have had any effect.
I hope your girl gets better soon.

I don't want to worry you but that is exactly what my dog did when he tore his cruciate. I'd try to keep her quiet until a vet can do a proper check.
Poor little Dizzy has a suspected broken toe so is nicely bandaged up in red to match her collar. She is feeling very sorry for herself indeed but is trying to be brave. The vet said that she was very worried when she first saw how she was walking as it looked just like it could be the cruciate as you say Lori so I think we have got away quite lightly.

Ahh, bless her, poor thing :(

Must admit Treacle cruciate was my first thought also, however I hope her toe mends quickly and she's soon running around again.
Thanks for letting us know.

Well I'm not happy she has a broken toe but very glad it's not the cruciate. I hope she's better soon.
