As it says in the title - is there such an organisation?  A gorgeous tabby has just taken up residence in my stables - I'm sure that there's an animal sign somewhere that says "A soft-touch lives here"!  She's so sweet, really affectionate so has obviously been handled.  I've no idea where she's come from, we are right out in the sticks.  I've asked everyone I can think of who lives hereabout but no luck. And I will mention it to my vet when I call about my cows later today, but they are some distance away.  So what now? Maybe I should try to take her to the vet to see if she's got a microchip - just thought of that!

Although I wouldn't have gone out to get a cat, I'm quite happy that she's here, she's lovely and what's one more mouth to feed, but I'm sure she's doing a bit of hunting as well to help earn her keep :)

As someone who's cat left home (!) the owners may be out there worrying.  It wouldn't do any harm to get the vet to scan the cat to see if its chipped.  Often the orginal owners just want to find out where the cat is and what's happened to it.  It's hard to take a cat back home that doesn't want to go, so as long as it's looked after I would be OK for it to stay.  Mine moved round the corner to a dog free home :)

Can you put a collar on it ?. Even a paper one will do. Write on it that the cat has been staying nearby and you are looking for it's owner, then put your tel number on it. That way, if/when the cat pops home the owners will know whats been happening. Unless it's staying with you 100% of the time, chances are it still goes home and is just using you as a free meal !.

You can phone details through to Cats protection league - they have a missing cats list.
