At what age do you start training cockers as Show Dogs.

Hi guest
I start training my Rough Collies from 6 weeks with titbits. If you bought your cocker from show stock, then the breeder would be the best person to contact and start you off with tips about stacking and table training your cocker. Good luck.

Hi

Val is right - if you got your Cocker from an experienced show person than he/she is the best person to ask for advice. We start training our Cocker pups to stand still on a table from about 5 weeks of age, just for a minute or so to begin with. Once they are vaccinated & "safe" to go out in the big wide, world, we will take them to ringcraft classes although we don't do any training with them to begin with - they just sit & watch from the sidelines, getting used to the sight & sound of the other dogs. If you can find a ringcraft class near you, then these are the best places for you to learn how to show your Cocker pup - you may be lucky & find there is already someone with Cockers attending the classes & you can watch & learn from them.

Good luck anyway!

Regards

Jane
