I am really P*** of with a so called friend

She has a pair of dogs brought to breed. They have had their first litter. No health checks. Pretty dire pedigree and she has sold them no bother for a lot of money She started to advertise them the day after they were born. The pups have not even gone yet and she has gone out today and purchased a new bitch puppy. This one she says has a brilliant pedigree so she will be able to get more for the pups. She has no inentions of getting it health checked either. Why bother when the others have sold so well she is talking about giving herself a kennel name and building a website.

Nothing i say is going to change her mind as she has had it so easy she just thinks I am being mean AARRGGHHH

Just notify the tax man that she is a back yard breeder......you can do it anonomously ;)

You could also tell her that she will be hated and villified by every genuine breeder in her area, and in her breed. Believe me, she will soon get a terrible reputation and the supply of buyers will dry up.

Unfortunately while people continue to buy puppies off people like this they will continue to breed. Makes me so angry.:-(

If she won't listen to you and won't change her minds there's nothing you can do untill she ends up spending ££££'s on a litter and losses either the puppies or mum.  Not something I would wish on her but untill she experiances that heartache she won't understand the difficulties as she's just made a profit from one litter.

It may sound awful but I'm afraid, if she was my friend, I would be cutting ties.  I couldn't stand to be associated with someone like that.  I struggle with my brother, and he has the one old dog that he ignores.  If he bred the way your friend is breeding I would have stopped contact a long time ago.

Totally agree with Nikita too, I owuldnt have friends who did bad breeding and then boasted about it, wouldnt be able to see them without lecturing them about breeding so wouldnt be friends, more like tutor and unwilling pupil!

I think we all know of people that do this kind of thing and to be honest, you can see the temptation when a litter of pups can buy the breeder a car, a kitchen or a nice holiday? It's no good taking the moral high road with her either as I for one do not believe what is said often, that good money cannot be made from breeding dogs because of course it can and it does. There wouldn't be any breeders out if there if wasn't money to be had would there? The plain facts are if you don't like it, or can't accept that is what she is going to do wether you like it or not, you must loose her as a friend.

I get the impression that the OP isn't taking the moral high ground about the fact that her friend is making money, but more on the fact that she is breeding from un health tested dogs without the best pedigree behind them.

I'm not a breeder, but I don't not begrudge others any money they may make from a litter, provided they have gone about it in the right way, and it seems that the ones who do it in the right way will make the least profit (and often a loss) because of the costs of health test and all of the proper equipment & care.

I totally agree with what you have said, but I guess I did not make my point well enough and it can sound like I'm all for backyard breeding, when I certainly am not. I too have nevere bred or see the necessity to as there has always been and will be to many dogs out there waiting for homes. OIMO and in a perfect world, breeding would be licenced and to breed from a dog or bitch by the breeder, the animal chosen should of been proven in some way, such as in the showing world or working. It amazes me that although docking has been banned due to the so called cruelty of it, indiscriminate breeding of dogs that will possibly be doomed to a tragic life has not.
What a crazy world we live in and then we inflict it on all our four legged friends.
