Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / weaning from mum complete?

Hi,
at what age are pups normally completely weaned from Mum please?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 21.07.08 06:43 UTC
They'll usually still be enjoying the odd comfort suck on the day they leave to their new homes. But from a nutritional point of view they should be fully weaned by about 6 weeks.

Thank you JeanG, sounds like we are about right then, they are down to 1 feed a day with Mum and they are 6 weeks tomorrow.
I think they are all sulking though as they aren't keen on their puppy food at all now and 2 days ago they were wolfing it?

Does Mum have free access to the pups (and can get away when she wants)? If she's not feeding them much now, do the pups have free access to drinking water?

Hi JeanG, Mum has always had free access but from about 10 days has not gone to them of her own volition!
We give her them in smaller batches, now down to 2-3 at a time.
They have water down at all times.
