I'm looking for a little help, i have an eight week old puppy that i am hoping to show, can anybody offer me any advice on standing her? Also what age would be best to start her going to ring craft? Thanks in advance !! ;-)

You will want to strat ringcraft as soon as she has had all her jabs.  As for standing her?  What breed is she?

You should be able to get all the help you need at a good Ringcraft class:-)

One thing to remember, she is a baby puppy, don't try to do too much too soon and let her have FUN :-)  I've seen a really excellent dog ruined by too much show training by enthusiastic beginners and the dog will now NOT do anything remotely related to it.  Hasn't been able to be shown at all :(  I've also seen many dogs who behave perfectly in the ring as they've been to Ringcraft since babies, but they lack sparkle and look like robots :(

My first dog was a NIGHTMARE in Ringcraft and open shows and couldn't be shown at a Championship Show until 18 months, I was lucky if she kept one foot on the floor !!!   I was told I was being too lenient with her and should make her behave, but she was having fun and enjoying the whole show thing. Then one day she seemed to realise what was needed.  She is a Champion now and everyone agreed, when she entered the ring she has that extra sparkle that says she's Chocolate :-D

I agree, get her to ringcraft but don't let them or you work her too hard - our ringcraft spends ages standing dogs from all sides and weaving in and out of the line, a little is fine but I sometimes go and sit down as I am getting bored never mind the dog, and I wouldn't let a puppy do all that standing either. Make sure she has fun, don't panic when she's naughty and tell her off, and have fun yourself too!

I always start standing my pups from the word go but very gently,making it fun and only for a few seconds to start with.  Ringcraft is usually one of their very first outings and again I only stand them for a very short while and usually only stay about half an hour for the first few weeks, slowly building up the time spent as time goes on.

This I find is the most important of all to remember, when you have a puppy you want to show. It's only too easy to work the promising pup  hard at ringcraft, do well from puppy class, and then train even more. If you're not careful, you'll end up with a young dog that's not finding it a bit fun anymore, the sparkle is gone. And that's something which is very difficult to regain, once it's gone.
