Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Calling Brainless (or anyone else who uses Nutro-Lac)

Hi,

Just received 2 nice big pots of Nutro-Lac.  But I'm worried (you know what I'm like lol).  On the box it says "Mix 50gms in 1 pint of water).  When I mix it, it works out to be far less powder than Welpi or Lactol - really far less, like less than half I would say.  Am I doing it right??  I am adding the 50gms to a pint rather than using 50gms and then making up to a pint.  I've read it right haven't I?  Is it supposed to be much less powder than Welpi or Lactol?

Rang the number on the tub and asked them - it is 50gms, then you make it up to 1 pint.  Another product with ambiguous directions!!  Anyway, it is still less powder than the others - maybe it is more concentrated or whatever the word is.

I measured out my 50g into a small pot and noted where it went to so I didn't have to do it over and over, then plonked it in the jug and poured the water over it to make a pint.
I did find if you use boiling water it goes funny...sort of separated so I use it cooler now. It wil mix in cold water too.

oh yes thats a good idea.

Did you find you need far less than Welpi or Lactol?

It is based on goats milk and the mix is the same as the rearing rate for the other milks, not the rate for hand rearing.  Have never hand reared on it so it could be that goats milk is more concentrated than cows.

Sorry, I don't understand your reply.  Can you say it so a blonde can understand please :-(

On many puppy milks there sare two ditlution rates, one as a supplement for reaing pups and to give to the mother and one for rearing newborns by artificial means.

There is just one on this Nutro-Lac.  It's 50gms to make up 1 pint.  But this is far less than Welpi or Lactol.

If you are meant to mix 5gm of Welpi with 20ml of water, that means to make a pint (568ml), you would use 142gm.  Is that right?

But with Nutro-Lac you only use 50gm to make 1 pint.

Can this be right?  I don't see how I am using enough Nutro-Lac.
