Have I gone completely mad? I can't make any sense of the Welpi mixing instructions at all.
This is what it says:-
Mix at a rate of 20% dry matter ie 1 part powder to 2 parts water: Add a small amount of water and mix to an even paste, then add the remaining required water, stirring all the time. 1x10ml scoop (5gm) Welpi powder to 20ml (20gm) water.
Well for a start I can't work out how 20% equates to 1 part powder to 2 parts water - isn't that 33%? Also how is 1 part powder to 2 parts water the same as 5gm powder to 20gm water? And how is 10ml the same as 5gm, but 20ml is the same as 20gm?? And where does the 20% fit in? I am so confused. Do I mix it 1 part powder to 2 parts water, or 5gm powder to 20gm water (25%) or 20%? As far as I can see it's saying 3 different things.
Please help someone before I lose the will to live lol.
They could have made it a bit clearer - it's very ambiguous!
I think they mean that the dry matter makes up 20% of the weight of the mix ie 5 gm powder to 20 gm water is 20% by weight, but it is actually 33% by volume ie a 10 ml scoop of the powder (which only weighs 5gm) mixed with 20 ml water.
Does that help - probably not!
I would just mix one scoop of powder to 2 scoops of water :)
But 5gm of 20gm is 25%, not 20%.
OK, 1 scoop powder to 2 scoops water. Doesn't say anything about pints though. I need 2 pints - will be there all day with scoops lol. I really think they need to review their instructions!!
5gm added to 20gm is a total of 25 gm and 5gm is 20% of 25 gm :)
If you are mixing it by volume - how about putting 2 glasses of powder with 4 glasses of water? You just need to find a glass or a cup with a volume of about 1/3 of a pint :) That's what I did when I had to mix up vast quantities of it. A tip, though, use 2 glasses/mugs that have the same volume and keep one for the dry powder and one for the water, you don't end up with quite such a mess!
Oh yes of course, it would make 25 gm. Yes I understand that part now - thank you. BUT how is 20% the same as 1 part powder to 2 parts water?
It isn't :)
It's 20% by weight. By the way that they are telling you to mix it is actually by volume rather than by weight. Like it said, it's very ambiguous and they could have made it a whole lot clearer :)
Good luck anyway - now you just have to mix it without any lumps! How old are your pups?
Oh god lolol it's bonkers isn't it. I still don't get it and I'm not even blonde lol - honest!!
Right, I will just do the cup thing then. Thanks for telling me the easy way lol - why don't they just put that on the pot?!?
Pups are 4 weeks old and sooooooooooo adorable. I'm at that stage where I just wanna keep every single one!!

Next time bnuy ready made :-D
If you are meant to mix 5gm of Welpi with 20ml of water, that means to make a pint (568ml), you would use 142gm. Is that right?
But with Nutro-Lac you only use 50gm to make 1 pint.
Can this be right? I don't see how I am using enough Nutro-Lac.

Yes based on what you have said that calculation is correct. I don't have the can so just confirming your calculation :-)
Thanks Blue - I never quite trust myself with maths lol. It just seemed odd how you only use a third of the amount of powder with Nutro-Lac. Anyway, it must be right, mustn't it.

Must just be the quality of the mix :-)
Yes it must be. It is half the price too lol. And the pups have better tummies on it. Wish I'd found it years ago!!
