I am no expert and definitely not as experienced as most people on this board BUT I have read this can be a sign of cleft palete, you need to get you vet to check quickly.
I know with horses it can just be bacause they are greedy so hopefully it will be just that.
Fingers and toes crossed for you.

Hi Bullgirl

If he is happy getting enough to eat and putting on weight it is probably nothing but the fact that he drinks too fast.  Sometimes this is also the sign of a cleft palet but if this was the case then I think the puppy would already be ill as with the cleft palet, the milk is going to go straight into his lungs and not into his stomach.  Have you had him checked by the vet already ?  I found this with a few of my pups too, especially at the beginning.  All you can do is stay there with them when they are feeding and watch for any milk coming from the nose.  If this happens, I usually take them off of the teat and plug them on somewhere else.  Just to slow them down a bit.

Hi think we posted about the same time, been checked by vet and was born at the vet, she is my tiny one and what you say does make sense as my bitchs milk has really come on so is probably to fast for her, will move her to the slower teats and then change teat every now and then.
thankyou for your reply.

I would get the vet to re-check, we had a litter born by c-section recently and was told all pups were fit and healthy, one DID have a cp and she ws the smallest one in the litter so we sadly had to have her put to sleep :(

hi they have all been checked again, and it only started early hours of this morning, i have just put her to the slow teat and much better, think her mums milk is flowing much faster now and i had been putting her on the best teats as she was the tiny one. thanks everyone.

We had a puppy that did that which when it was weaned we discovered had a megaoesphagus.

Keep a very close eye on the pup once you start weaning for signs of food being sicked up.

I have also been told my a vet friend that a very tiny cleft palette can be missed.

I have had one gusty one in every litter that did it. First litter i panicked and then once fully checked over never worried with the rest.   If it was someone to worry about natural will tell you ..

Same as Chloe101 had a pup do this many years ago and he also had megaoesophagus and sadly died at 12 weeks although he fought his short life hard!
