why is it....that coke out of a plastic bottle or can NEVER tastes as good, or is as refreshing, as coke out of a glass bottle????

am just gonna have to go back to glass bottles I s'pose, hang the expense ;)
- By briedog [gb] Date 11.07.08 06:37 UTC
i agree with you on this one,
- By Paula20380 [gb] Date 11.07.08 07:06 UTC
We get a pop man round once a week with all the pop in glass bottles in crates on the back of his flat bed van!! Just like it used to be. And it is cheaper than buying pop from anywhere else and saves me getting rid of bottles as he collects them all a week later!
- By killickchick Date 11.07.08 07:26 UTC
Years and years ago we used to have a pop man. He sold the usual flavours and gorgeous other ones too - banana, cherry, tropical, dandelion and burdock etc. Don't know what happened to him :(
- By DEARLADY [gb] Date 11.07.08 07:34 UTC
progress eh :(

as well as getting your fresh fruit and veg from the local grocer in a paper bag.......

but things are better now?? Aren't they?????
- By belgian bonkers Date 11.07.08 08:07 UTC
Agree on that one!  Milk is the same, (we don't get glass bottles for milk anymore).  I think it's because it's colder in glass, though plastic is next best thing!
- By DEARLADY [gb] Date 11.07.08 08:11 UTC
but the coke does not taste the same!!

even poured into a glass straight from the fridge......soooooo disappointing

(and here's me trying to cut back so didn't buy the glass bottles, plastic is yucky though :( )

ah well, onwards and upwards ;)

I don't think Ribena out of a plastic bottle tastes the same as the cartons!
- By St.Domingo Date 11.07.08 08:49 UTC
I buy all drinks and sauces in glass bottles whenever possible as i think that glass is more likely to be recycled , and there was some talk of chemicals seeping into food/drink when in plastic .
I would love them to bring back milk in glass bottles at the supermarket as it definately tastes better from an ice-cold glass bottle !!!
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 11.07.08 10:30 UTC
Ditto Gembo. Even when you buy the ribena concentrate and try to make it yourself it just isnt the same.
- By Isabel Date 11.07.08 10:33 UTC
I thought Ribena was a cordial.  Have they changed it?
- By gembo [gb] Date 11.07.08 10:34 UTC
I said this to my OH a few weeks back so he made me do the Pepsi challenge (1 glass of each, drunk blind folded & you have to tell the difference!) & I could tell straight away! Shut him up!! I want 'bena now!!
- By gembo [gb] Date 11.07.08 10:35 UTC
You can get it in small cartons for lunch boxes, plastic 500ml bottles & large juice cartons as well as the concentrated type!
- By Isabel Date 11.07.08 10:42 UTC
I'm sure the cordial must be the original though, certainly that was what was available many moons ago when I was a child.  Ready made must be the modern convenience food :-)

>Even when you buy the ribena concentrate and try to make it yourself it just isnt the same.

That's because we naturally dilute Ribena to a weaker mixture - the cartons are incredibly, horribly sweet and concentrated! I think the lunchbox-size cartons contain about 4 or 5 teaspoonfuls of sugar!!
- By Isabel Date 11.07.08 10:58 UTC
I would imagine it is very expensive getting them to put the water in for you too :-)
- By georgepig [gb] Date 11.07.08 11:00 UTC
Or Cadburys buttons tasting the same as Dairy Milk - buttons all the way!!!
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 11.07.08 11:03 UTC
Even when ive made the drink myself from concentrate and made it really really strong it just isnt the same. I wonder if they put something special in the cartoon to encourage you to buy them (as they are a more expensive way of drinking it)
- By ClaireyS Date 11.07.08 11:26 UTC
depends which one you buy JG, my brother is diabetic  and he has the extra light one.
- By dexter [gb] Date 11.07.08 12:24 UTC
You can't beat a can of coke :)
- By ClaireyS Date 11.07.08 12:30 UTC
I never have pop out of glass bottles, in fact I dont think ive seen it (other than when I was travelling in Africa !!)  I only like diet coke though, not keen on pepsi, and full fat coke makes my teeth squeak

My daughter says it smells like spaghetti hoops ! She hates it.

Know what you mean about cadburys buttons, they always taste nicer!!

Ours does and appleade, pineappleade and something very similar to vimto which is very mmmmmmm!!!! He does quite a few more, and packs of seabrooks crisps at a bargain price!!
- By calmstorm Date 11.07.08 21:50 UTC
yep freds mum, know what you mean, Ribena tastes so different in the cartons etc, mixing it yourself tastes nothing like the same, whatever one you have from the range (original, low sugar, light) I'm sure there is a flavour enhancer in it to make you want more ;) :) :)
- By Dill [gb] Date 11.07.08 23:22 UTC
Anyone tried the new Red Bull Coke??   My nephew bought some and gave me a drop - it was just like Coke before they took out the 'naughty' substance :-D :-D :-D   Tastes great but I can't find any round here to buy it :(

- By gembo [gb] Date 24.07.08 15:44 UTC
Yeah bizarely it was always the only drink left in the vending machines after my step aerobics class years ago & I used to love it, a great sugar boost! Yum!
