I wondered what everyone uses to treat their dogs with as far as flea etc etc sg. advocate? frontline??

Advocate to repell the fleas and ticks for when we went to France for a month. Frontline however is fine for the UK.

I use Stronghold, as it does fleas, tick, heartworm (I believe we get that here occasionally now) and also sarcoptic mange, tapeworm and roundworm. So everything is done in one go, no separate worming :)

Stronghold doesn't cover tapeworm or ticks - for those you need separate products.

Has anyone ever used the own brand version sold by Hyperdrug?  Here

I'd be interested to hear about it's effectiveness or not

I wouldnt use that as it can kill cats and my cats do cuddle up with my dogs.

I dont use anything regularly I dont see the point in keep putting chemicals onto the dogs, I maybe frontline them all once every 4 - 6 months, usually when I worm them.  I must be lucky because even though I have cats and live out in the sticks I havent seen a flea for years.

small amount of garlic each day, together with brewers yeast tablets (vit b) and pumpkin seeds keep my dogs flea free, I also use neem shampoo which is supposed to help prevent tics.  My dogs are flea & tic free.  And for worming I use 4 seasons wormer.

Perry im intrested in that shampoo which prevents tics ? where do you buy it ? also is that wormer a natural one ? and do you know how effective it is ? my cats eat whatever they catch so have to be done on a regular basis.

Hi ClaireS
I get the neem shampoo from neemgenie, the mite shampoo is what I use about 2 or 3 times a year: http://www.neemgenie.co.uk/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=HA02&Category_Code=007&Product_Count=1
and this is the one I use generally which is not quite as strong:   http://www.neemgenie.co.uk/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=PE03&Category_Code=007&Product_Count=6  but both seem really gentle on their skin.

I get the 4 seasons anti parasitic from here:  http://www.holisticpetsupplies.co.uk/advanced_search_result.php?osCsid=71143dcd73cd1206bcda1d669886996c&search_in_description=1&keywords=4+seasons&osCsid=71143dcd73cd1206bcda1d669886996c&x=9&y=7  and the wormer is given once a month for the dogs, I do know it mentions cats on the info on the website and you would need to find out the doseage for cats.

I will take a look at that, thanks.  I hate using chemicals when they arent needed.

JG Apologies, yes you're right, I was thinking of biting lice :) instead of ticks, and don't know where I got tapeworm from!

No probs! :-) Stronghold is one of the best spot-ons available, but no drug is perfect! :-D
