Topic Other Boards / Foo / Can anyone recommend a good DVD ??
- By katypoo [in] Date 10.07.08 09:44 UTC
As we are enjoying recommending books at the moment, I wondered if you have a favourite film? Perhaps something you saw which deserves a mention?

I have bought into one of these DVD by mail things, it is really good, DVDs arrive promptly and you pop them back in the post when you have seen it and they send the next on your list.

There must be some really good films I have missed over the years which I ought to get. I Just curl up on the sofa, when everyone is out and I have the TV controls to myself!!!

(School holidays....Lord I have seen enough Top Gear to last me a lifetime..LOL!)

Depends upon the type of film you like but I loved:
Pay it forward
The green mile
A.I.
I am legend
The Day after tomorrow
The Core
Hostage
Just like Heaven
Van Helsin (sp?)

Some of my favourites are ...

Pay It Forward
Finding Neverland
Practical Magic
Chocolat
Stepmom

Tissues required for quite a lot of these!!

My taste in films seems to be a lot more fluffy than my taste in books. Also regularly re-watch things like Sweet Home Alabama, Love Actually, etc.

Another one I have that I feel I should hate is 13 Going on 30. There is a scene where they are dancing to Thriller, and it makes me cry laughing every time. I have NO idea why, but it does. Memories of school discos with everyone trying to do 'group' dances maybe?

Couple of oldies "Rain Man" I love it, love it. "As good as it Gets" dont like Jack Nicholas looks like he needs a wash, great film.  Newest "Hannibal Rising" saw it recently & OH came in and we both sat up late watching.
The latest " The Bolyen Girls" was ok as well.
Does anyone do what I do buy new ones but do not watch them, kids borrow them and do not bring them back!!

From other people's recommendations, I also love Rain Man (watched this on TV a short while ago, had forgotten how good it was), The Green Mile, No Country For Old Men (saw this on small screen on plane, would have frightened the bejaysus out of me at the cinema I should think, but very good).
