I have two female dogs which have both gone to seperate stud dogs, one of them had a huge 2 to 3 minute tie the other didnt tie at all , however the owner of the stud dog held him in place for about 10 minutes, what are the chances of them being caught, both were tested to be sure they were ready.
Any advice would be helpfull.

Hi Guest

Are you entirely sure what a "tie" is - a human is very unlilkely to be able to hold a male inside a female for 10 minutes if the male has already retracted. A tie can last anything between a few minutes and the longest I have ever seen was 45 minutes - the average seeming to be around 15-20 minutes.

A slip mating is where the male is inside the female for seconds rather than minutes.

I now realise you mean hold the dog to the bitch :D

A tie is not neccessary to produce puppies, although most bitch owners would prefer to have a tie, once inside the female, the male will ejaculate, the tie helps to keep the sperm inside the bitch. If the bitch does not hold the dog in the tie, on a first attempt, then on the next attempt, I will hold the dog, as long as possible, but once the bitch releases, it is very hard to keep the dog inside. Bitches have had 9-10 pups without a tie.

We rarely have ties with our breed. We hold the dog to the bitch for 10 minutes with NO problems, just keep the bitch still.
As for results.... well its rare for our dog to miss and our bitchs when taken to other stud dogs (again no ties) never missed yet. We had one bitch tie with our dog and we were stuck there for 45 minutes but no pups.

I think there are a lot of other posts along this line if you do some research.

good luck with your litters!
