Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / SURROGATE BITCH AVAILABLE....SHE HAS PLENTY OF MILK!!!
- By tracey32uk [gb] Date 09.07.08 14:06 UTC
My beautiful bitch lost her entire litter yesterday, through no fault of her own. So i would like to offer her/my services to anyone who feels they need her milk/mummyness for any pups that may benefit! My decision to do this is to stop someone going through the heartache we are suffering at the moment. She has plenty of milk, and plenty of love, and would accomodate big or small breed puppies. You can either contact me here, or 01255 432699/07535 123233 or on tracey32uk@yahoo.co.uk.

Don't need a surrogate, but how sad:-(
Do you mind me asking what happened?

Hi, i dont know....1st was seemingly fine...was having trouble suckling so expressed colostrum/milk and hand fed...still having trouble...then 2 more boys stillborn (1 was out of sac and had some poo so imagine that was poisoned)...then 2 hours later little girl stillborn (very skinny and didnt look quite right)...then after about 12 hours..1st born just went to sleep and didnt wake up!....cant think of any reason for it although was told as this was her 1st litter, sometimes it happens (although its the first time its happened to me)..I did everything i could, but it just wasnt meant to be i suppose, heartbreaking though, and i am unsure whether to let her have another litter or not...she is really stressing and trying to find the pups, so thought she would make a lovely surrogate mum.

Maybe this was meant to be..............good luck

Twelve cute pups need new mum Jul 9 2008

A CANINE foster family is urgently needed to look after 12 tiny puppies who cannot be fed by their seriously ill mum.

And Buddies are being asked to answer the call for help.

When Angelina, a heavily pregnant Lurcher Cross, arrived at the Glasgow Rehoming Centre nine days ago she was severely undernourished.

Although she managed to give birth to a dozen healthy pups, the fact that she was so exhausted and malnourished meant her supply of milk dried up.

Angelina is trying to look after them but veterinary treatment to help her produce milk has not worked. The only option left is to find a foster mother to take over the nursing of the three-day-old puppies.

Story continues

Now the Dogs Trust Glasgow is hoping a generous family will step in and help.

Sandra Downie explained: "The staff here are currently taking shifts to care for the puppies round the clock and are feeding them with artificial milk.

"But we're no substitute for a mother. Unless we find a foster mum soon, the puppies may die."

Anyone who has, or knows of, a nursing dog is asked to contact the Rehoming Centre immediately on 0141 773 5130.

well, the saga continues.....we have just given birth to another (sadly dead) puppy.....34 hours after the first! now i think that maybe i can feel movement, so maybe, just maybe we will have 1 little one that survives...really had thought it was all over, i wont hold out any hope, but it would be so nice for Tasha to have a little one after all this!

I would get her to the vet asap.

Yes, get the vet to look at her straight away.  I would think if there is any puppy left she should be delivering it a soon as possible and probably some antibiotic cover.
- By tracey32uk [gb] Date 09.07.08 17:48 UTC
have already been in contact with vet, and other breeders, and under advise am have taken steps towards moving the puppies (if any) along, and will give her till the morning before we visit vet (vet had examined her on monday before puppies started coming so its not like ive been going on a wing and a prayer!). PLEASE all keep your fingers crossed for me that there is a live one (rotties do have a tendancy to carry some high under the rib-cage so there is still a chance!) x

What steps have they advised?  I was thinking along the lines of an oxytoxin injection to get the puppy delivered as soon as possible.  I would also worry that if the puppies had demised in the uterus and had started to break down she would really benefit from antibiotics.  Any infection setting in would also affect any surviving puppy.  Have you spoken to your vet?
- By ChristineW Date 09.07.08 20:50 UTC
Yep, any vet worth their salt would be getting her in to examine her and at least adminster an oxytocin injection or even x-ray her to see if she has any puppies left - whatever the time of day or night.   I made the mistake of letting a vet tell me to wait until the morning on the last litter I bred just because she was heavily pregnant herself and didn't want to trundle back to surgery, I sometimes wonder if those 4 pups born dead the next day might be alive now.

Oohh i am so sorry to hear about your loss and your poor girl must be going crazy.I think it's wonderful that you have offered your girl as a foster mum.I was desperate for a foster mum 4wks back, my girl had 4 puppies (3 died c section) we had just the 1 little girl alive but mum had no milk.Me being me i got on here found new litters and were lucky enough to come across a foster mum (hence being a totally different breed)who had loads of milk and just the 1 puppy,my little girl is still with the foster mum and is 4wks old this fri, without people like yourself and champ dogs i dare say my little girl would not be here.Good luck hope you at least get 1 puppy and do all you can for the 12 puppys with a poorly mum.All the very best you deserve it.

Yes, I would get her in for an infection and palpation / x-ray / ultrasound, it's not normal (though not unheard of) to have a puppy so late after the rest, and if there is a live one still it needs to come out asap. Hope for your girl's sake that there is one - and if sadly not, hope the rescue people can use her as a surrogate, sounds perfect!
- By denese [gb] Date 10.07.08 09:16 UTC
Agree here get her to the vets, don't wait, if the after births come away the pup has to be born asap or it will drowned. I lost a litter listerning to a vet over the phone if she is in labour it is going on to long. Vets have limited knowledge on breeding, unless they breed thereselves. As I have said before it is like doctors and gynacologist.
Through experience I would not wait.

Fingers crossed that you may have a live puppy for your girl.  I'd agree with the others and would push for further attention from the vet, phone another vet for a second opinion if necessary.  Good luck, keep us updated.
- By Zajak [gb] Date 10.07.08 16:47 UTC
Sorry forgot to add, I've experienced the same as Denese, wouldn't hesitate in pushing my vet in future if anything unusual again.  My bitch went on to have a very healthy litter of 9 puppies, naturally with no intervention from the vet.

Hi Tracey. Heard anything yet? Hoping everything is ok. xxx
- By tracey32uk [gb] Date 10.07.08 19:08 UTC
Hi all...Tasha is fine! Unfortunately no more pups, but as long as she is ok thats my main priority! Her discharge is down to the occasional spot, and is a healthy colour, with absolutely no smell at all, and her temperature is 37.6 and slowly rising back to normal daily. She is back to shredding the mail, and playing with her toys, so i am happy with her but still monitoring everything daily. Thank you for all your kind words. xxx
- By STARRYEYES Date 10.07.08 19:49 UTC
so please you still have your girl and that she is doing well (I have a friend who wasnt so lucky)
