Can anyone tell me where do you get your stock of newspapers from when you have a litter of pups!!!
I don't have a newspaper in my house, so asked all my family to collect their newspapers well before the pups arrived.
Now pups are 5 weeks old I am running out fast! my family are still kindly collecting them for me, but these days not many people read a newspaper as they get their news via the web!

I went to my local shop to ask what they did with their un sold newspapers, and was told they go back to the printers and they get credited!
So please help!! where where where or what could I use instead????

Find your local paper boy or girl collar them if you see them in the st. luckily i have family and one of their kids does it and i have 200 allready saved up for me and more to come next time i see them, you can never have too many. When i delivered the citizen a local free paper id have 30 left easily every week. They are unsoiled not even read, pup i know of people that use shavings for their pups never tried it though. dont know if it would have any ill effects.

I use shredded paper bought by the bale.  There are adverts at the back of Dog World and also some pet stores (farm shops sell it).  It is fairly expensive circa £15 but I believe it to be worth it.  Much easier for picking up poos and very absorbant too.

I saw someone once getting them out the newspaper recycling once - so maybe try at a supermarket recycle place?

well we get free local papers through the door weekly and the ones we buy we keep too, i have loads and loads of boxes of newspaper stacked up in the bedroom, friends and family are a good way but other than that for newspapers the only thing i could recommend is that you buy some, the dog world newspaper is a good one as its good to read and its quite thick so you get loads of paper to use, some people use straw or saw dust but if you have your pups indoors that could make an awful mess

I ask friends and neighbours, especially if they have there papers delivered. They are all helpfull. I then box them all and store them in the garage, till needed.

hi, if you or your partners works ask everyone at work to bring them in, I ended up with mountains, and it was a litter of 8 so as you can imagine we needed a lot!!!

Friends, workmates and neighbours here too :) though I have got 2 years worth of 'Our Dogs' stacked in the shed should I run out ;)

I went round our local newsagents and they kept heeeaps for me!

I would try another shop. I worked in a newsagent when I was in New Zealand and believe me the printers don't want hundreds of old papers back.  We used to just tear off the strip at the top of the fist page with the name and date on for credit and chuck the papers in the dumpbin out the back. Just find a friendlier shop :)

If you have a newpaper printer near you ask them about the end of roll.  They don't use the full roll when doing a print run.
You then get the paper without the ink, brilliant if you have white dogs.
We have a lady in our breed who gets it for us.

I hate to say this but on recycling day I have been known to get peoples recycled newspapers out and also been found to get them from recycling at supermarkets.  You could also try your local newspaper distributers as a friend of mine used to get to me from there.

im the same as chloe......theres a nursing home in the village and every recyle day they have hundreds of  daily telegraphs outside so I help myself.......well it is a sort of re cycling isnt it! :)

I used to work for a well known supermarket and when the weekend suppliments came in for the big broadsheet papers (the 'mini'newspaper type, not the glossy mags sort) there were usually too many. I used to keep them back and at the end of the day take home all of the suppliments from the leftover unsold papers. They make no difference to the sellers getting their credits back.

Try asking around at all your local shops for the suppliments!

I collect all rear around and store them for when I need them ....HA hubby not too pleased as I double bag them and stack !! he thinks I have lost the plot but when you start to run out its a nightmare.
If you get desperate you could buy cheap lining paper from B&Q plus its stops the dirt feet near new home time.

ive got loads af newspaper too boxes of it in the bedroom and my wardrobe is full of the stuff, i never thought of lining paper, thats a good idea

Ask the neighbours a few weeks before the pups are due and they store them for us :)

I work for a financial services company, I went round at the end of each week and gathered up the stacks of unwanted Financial Times that were left and asked people to hold them back for me, I had a spare room full.  Is there a company like this near you?  I'm sure they'd be happy to let youtake the surplus off their hands!  It does make for very intelligent pups :) and is far more absorbent than normal newspapers :)

One of the best places to go is the betting shops, they have race newspapers and i got stacks of them as they have them on a daily basis.

I save mine all through the year (there is a free paper each week) also get neighbours to give me theirs instead of putting them out for recycling each week.

I get all my unused papers for whelping and puppies from Local Estate Agents, they have deliveries weekly of property news etc, they are more than happy to let me have them rather than bother taking them to recycle,  If I dont use them all, then I take them to various vets in the area.   Hope that helps.

I get 2 free papers and Dog World every week, I stored them up for about 6 months before my litter and still ran out, I had friends and my husband's office bringing me bags daily!! I've been saving for the next litter ever since, hopefully with 14 months I should have enough this time!

I sent my OH out last night in the pouring rain to raid the recycle bins at our local supermarkets and he said that there was no way he could open the bin to get the newspapers!! :) :(

So are we going to the wrong bins????  he said there is a opening for you to post your newspapers through but you cant get any out as the bin was locked and the opening was too narrow to get your hands into????????
I have also sent him out on his travels to get some lining paper from B&Q!

My OH came home with a few rolls of it this evening and I was straight on the case, cleaning the puppy room and placing the lined paper down! Its perfect!
Looks lovely clean and tidy at the moment, thats only because the 6 horrors are sleeping after a nice dinner!!
Lined paper is on the top of my list for any future litters! Ok you have to pay for it although its not that expensive, about £3.50 a roll but there is loads on the roll and the puppy room just looks so neat and tidy!

Another idea - might be worth going to your local train station after rush hour times...always stacks of newspapers outside ours!

I can remember we had a a similar nightmare - my OH started throwing them thinking I had lost the plot - he regretted it when he had to go and beg newspapers from all and sundry !!!

As a result, we started saving as soon as the pups were gone / trained (the two who stayed) - despite knowing my next litter wouldn't be for the best part of 18 months!!! - once bitten etc etc

I must be one of the very few that used little newspaper. For the first few weeks I only used it under the vetbed that mum and pups were on and once pups were downstairs I only used paper at night. During the day the pups always had outside access and any little indoor accident was mopped up or picked up (tiled floor). By the time they went to their new homes they were practically house-trained.

We put an ad in our local village shop windowand usually get a good responce
