Hi has anyone ever had this done to a bitch, i think he called it a deep uterine scan. My foster girl is in whelp, we are not sure when shes due we thought she might have been going in to labour on friday but nothing yet, she was scanned again saturday evening, the vet said if she hasnt had them in a week and a half he wants to do this deep scan but said she will need to be sedated for it as it is not nice and its only being done as a last resort, iv never heard of this sort of scan before and was wondering if any one has ever had one done before or knows anything about it.

Hi pepsi1,
I don't do scans as they are often wrong. Never heard of deep uterine scan and pesonally I won't want an in whlep bitch sedated as this will also sedate the pups! My worry would be what if she goes into labour under sedation?
When was she mated? How much discharge does she have?
Taking temperature three times a day is very helpful from 58 days. You can pinpoint labour within 24 hours. :-)
Sorry can't be more helpful.
Good Luck.

shes a rescue dog and was in whelp when she came to me, so we have no idea when shes due, we are concerned that we dont know when shes due so dont know when shes gone over, thats why this scan will be a last resort, we have been taking her temp and its been all over the place, low, high then low again, shes not herself but no signs of labour. The main concern is not knowing when shes due or what she was mated with so we just dont know how long to leave her or what t do for the best.

hi,
It's great you've taken on a rescue. I can understand your concerns. How long have you had her?
Did you know she was in whelp when you got her? Normally in the last few days the temp goes up & down, it often dips as low at 36, they should arrive within 24 hours. I don't mind them going slightly over, but they are a small breed. The only time I worry is if they go into whelp and are obviouly pushing, adjetated and nothing is happening!
What breed is she?

Shes a staffordshire bull terrier, shes been with me 5 weeks was scanned when she came to me and saw pups so must of been atleast 4 weeks, her temps been all over the place, up one min then down the lowest was saturday and it was 37.1.

I wonder if it is an internal scan, done through the vagina.  It's something done in humans in early pregnancy to get closer to the small uterus.

Im guessing thats what it is as he said she would need to be sedated as it will be uncomfortable, im hoping it wont come to that, i just dont know how long to leave her. I want to do the best for her and to be honest her health comes before the pups.

Hi,
Once again I think it's great you've rescued her, escpecially in whelp. If you've had her 5 weeks and you think she was then 4 weeks she should be due any day!
Any news? How is she doing?
Good Luck :-)

Sasha delivered 3 dead pups last night, shes doing fab, shes been looking for her babies so i keep trying to distract her, poor girl.
She will be spayed in 2 weeks then hopefully off to a new forever home after she has recovered.

Have you given her a cuddly toy? Might help I read it somewhere!!

iv been told not to as she will start treating it as her baby, the best thing to do is just get on with it, im giving her lots of TLC, it will take time but we will get there

Hi,
Sad. :-( I hope she get over her experience quickly.
Good Luck.

It is sad, but in a way for the best as she has had enough to deal with going through rescue etc.

Reduce the protein levels and lots of excesses.  Also removing comfy bedding should help take her mind of being broody and moping.
