My father had a family emergency and had to leave town. Rather than keep his 8 week old APBT in a kennel, I thought it would be a great idea for my dog and his to socialize them together and let them live together. We brought the puppy home tonight, and he was very scared. My GSD is a 14 week old confident dog who loves to bounce around and play. She's never had a problem with other dogs. Well the PB will grow and attack out of defense with his tail tucked every time the GSD gets near, and this provokes the gsd to bark and play. I will be keeping the APBT for quite some time, and was wondering if this behavior will pass? Or how long should I keep them apart? Keeping them seperate for good isn't viable.

Hello Leigh
I thought I would e mail this one as its quite a long post. Here is a much shortened version. Its the GSD female trying the dominance thing on the APBT pup that is the problem. The APBT male wont fight with the female. If the GSD is allowed to freely dominate the pit without the interference of the pack leader, the APBT will assume its okay for it to dominate other males without pack leaders approval. (outwith the pack) This is where the danger lurks. Taking control of the pack, in this case both the GSD and the APBT and being the only dominant member of the pack is the way to have peace between the dogs. Any fighting will be done by me is the attitude to take.
Regards Mick.
