Patches McHound (Fox Terrier X) weighs 8kg. Is this too much for a dog of his size? He is 39cm at his shoulders. He looks alright to me, but I can't see his ribs. Should I be able to see his ribs? I feel them when I pet him though.

At one point he did weigh 7kg. Should he loose some weight?

Hi,
My mini girls are about 7kg, but for an adult dog they should be 8kg.
I would think his weight is fine. :-)
Do you think the lump on his sheath could be affecting his weight?
What is he crossed with?

With mine, I think if I can feel the ribs easily and fairly high up - but not right at the top - then they are the weight they should be.  I also look for a nice tuck-up (the belly going up toward the groin underneath) and a decent waist.

I don't tend to go by the actual weight unless I am already aware of my dogs' ideal weight (determined by the above) - so I know that while my dobe girl is almost at her ideal weight of 37-8kgs (she is just shy of 39 at the mo), my dobe boy is badly overweight at 39kgs (his ideal is 31kg).  I know that from experience rather than data - I've looked at weight charts and TBH they are hopeless, they are way off as they don't take into account individuals.  According to the last one I saw, Soli is overweight and Remy is just right - but he is so obviously fat! :-P  He is dinky for a boy and Soli is big for a girl.
