Okay has anyone ever been on a Safari.......to Kenya (would be ideal) I am considering this 5 night safari - Amboseli national park...which is over looked by Mount Kilimanjaro and then Masi Mara... and then 8 nights, at a beach hotel...."Travellers Club" right on the beach....it has come about because there were 8 of us who had radiotheraphy if you recall 2 years ago, and we often spoke of what we'd like to do etc etc as you do loittering in hospital waiting around and a kenyan safari and beach holiday came out tops. And today two of the women I was a radi8tor with contacted me (we have kept in touch, sadly twice through funerals of orginal members) and asked if I was up for it......there are apparently 5 going (one a chap) at the moment 2 of whom are newer additions and I am very very very tempted......once in a lifetime. In fact I am going I think trying to get some facts and figures sorted..........so any tips welcome.

Oh wow! Go for it! I'd love to do something like that and as you say, once in a lifetime opportunity.

Thats why we thought of it at first just something to keep our chins up during radio and chemotheraphy but then "the seed was planted...and grew"

"let it blossom and be fruitful" or in plain English Go for it :-D

Apparently thats one of the "safari's" to find the big 5...................I am just trying to work out finances actually............but really reeally want to go and as we dreamt of it so much sitting in hospitals....think I will......

I think I must be the only person on the planet who doesnt have yearnings to go on safari. Ive got a phobia about wild animals and the thought of all them lions and hippos brings me out in a cold sweat. Ive oftensaid that if I even won the chance to go on a free safari holiday I would have to give it away! I work with someone who grew up in Africa and they think its hilarious as they reckon the chances of me being eaten by a lion are pretty slim but all rationality goes out the window with me, lol.
But if thats what you want to do, I'd say go for it!!!!

what a lovely holiday to go on, i think it sounds amazing! my work colleague went on safari to kenya the year before last and loved it!!! and funnily enough i was talking to my friends last week and they had been on a holiday to sri lanka ( i know different place!!) but they had a beach hotel which is kinda why i mention it, and they said it was amazing they had chalets on the beach and the bathroom was open to the sky and made like a tropical garden, so at night you could see all the stars.
i think it would be amazing to see all the animals running free in their own natural habitats, and i hope if you go you have a wonderful time.

I travelled in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique etc so have been on a few safari's. Also did a hippo conservation project in Malawi. Seeing animals in the wild is a most amazing thing, you will never want to visit a zoo again, infact you will question the point of zoos !!! What did you want to know and I will try to help :)

Okay has anyone ever been on a Safari
YES! Loved it, most fantastic trip, still got the wooden carvings, T shirts and wooden..bead...stone jewlery!
We did Amboseli and Masi Mara and another....have to kick out pics lol....we landed in Mombassa, very bouncy coach ride (roads not so good ;) ) to our hotel in Malindi. Next day we were off! Its such a breath taking country, so much to see. Its light at 6 which is when you start off for the day, but they have you back well before dark because it goes dark so fast and thats when hunting starts...;) The accomadation is amazing, especially as its such a poor country, food wonderful, but buy your own water, take some AB's and painkillers with you because the charges out there for paracetamol is HUGE. We did 10 days safari, ending up in Narobi and took the famous 'overnight slow train' back to Mombassa. Amazing! At the hotel, the sands are amazing, but patrolled by armed guards. Be careful of the 'beach Boys' who try to bargain with you. The sea and views are out of this world, food plentiful, swimming pools clean and outdoor, and depending where you are there are day trips too.
If you get the chance...then GO!!! You will love it :) :) :) :)
I think your safari is the same type as ours was, you stay at 3 different lodges on your travels, and yes your guide will do his very best to find the 'BIG 5' for you. Any tips you want just ask :)
Worst bit though is all the jabs you have to take before you go ;)

I visited Kenya many years ago. We did not stay in a lodge but deliberately chose a tented safari while we were there but either way you are certainly going to see a great deal of wildlife. I have been to other areas in Africa, which I have to say I have enjoyed more in terms of escaping into nature but there is no doubt in my mind in terms of ticking the boxes in seeing large game in a short period of time Kenya is the best.

Kazz... WOW!! I am so jealous!! I go to South Africa in 3 weeks & am doing 4 days Safari, we originally wanted to go to Kenya & do the Mara but (don't want to put a dampner on things) were advised not to travel there at the moment as it's till quite unstable!! which is why we going to Sa!! However hoping to go there once it all ssttles down!! I'm sure you'll have a fab time, I will be so jealous if you see a leopard, apparently hardly anyone sees this elusive cat!! Enjoy!!

I lived in Kenya as a child. The scenery and wildlife are things you will never forget. I would check travel advice to the area as someone else has suggested.
Life is for living and your priorities change so much when you have been through a difficult time - memories are the things we look back on and store away to help us get through the bad times. Live life to the full and enjoy it :)

What-ever you decide, go for it! I think you deserve this and if you can make finaces work (live on beans and toast and tuna/pasta/sweetcorn) then go for it!
Above diet is perfectly safe....Two years down from uni! ;)

i have been twice and its breataking to see all the wild animals etc.
kenya is like nothing on earth its so beauitful i never wanted to leave.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

One child did China for a year last year. Loved every second of it.
Other doing Africa next year, obviously a little bit more anxious on this one, (I'm a mother it is my job). But with the right info and back up it will be OK.
Go for it. If it does not run smoothly you can always come home early. Safety in numbers as well etc etc.
