They can be registered, with the colour stated as 'Non-standard'.

I met a lady recently with a black and white poodle that she imported from the US.  She described it as a parti-coloured, is this the same as your description of phantom?

can  you show partis over here?. i think im correct in sayin they cant be shown in US,  although i may be wrong.

Nothing to stop you showing a parti, but the standard is solid colours preferred.

Usually parti colours are black and white, sometimes silver and white occasionally brown and white but always basically white with darker coloured patches.

The marking of the doberman which is basically black and tan is called "phantom" as this is an even marking down the inside of all four legs, a light spot of diamond shaped marke under the tail (which is visible at birth) two spots on either side of the chest ( and quite often, one on each cheek and one above each eyebrow) give a completely even marked pattern all over the dog which shows up very plainly when the dog is basically dark - black, blue, brown, grey but which may be completely hidden on a real platinum silver or a light apricot.

If this is so - in other words, if the pattern is not discernable to the eye - the dog is not actually a parti or unacceptable colour - although in reality it is.  If it appears one solid colour it is of course acceptable in the show ring.

There is someone who recently imported a couple and does the breeding correctly, seem nice looking dogs.

As an owner of a breed that is related to the Poodle and is allowed parti-colours I can see the attraction.

It wasn't so long ago when they were actually killed at birth here in the UK, although I wouldn't be surprised if it still happens.

hi  parti poodles have been bred in uk since 1700  my  great great great grandma bred them and they were reaconized then and as little ago has the 1920s  our family were still breeding them however the last of the stock were sold to france and that was the last i had heard of them until now they are great dogs not freak of nature but just like the irish red and white setter the white was bred out because the solid colour was more favourble  now the red and white setter is considered two different breeds what a shame , that is why some red seters have a white bib sometimes or a bit of white on the paw. coming back to the parti these were the oringinal colours and they have gone the same way however they will come back and its only sour grapes to those who have solid colours, that pooh pooh them..
