Topic Dog Boards / Health / Past topic on infection in breeding bitches. BHS??? Help.
- By freespirit10 Date 02.07.08 19:42 UTC
Hi

A while back I think on here I read about an infection which bitches can carry which can cause them to fail to conceive or to abort a pregnancy. I can't find it anywhere.
My bitch has had one litter 3 years ago and would like a 2nd litter however she has now been mated twice and missed. She has come into season and I want to get her swabbed to check for infection and then antibiotics but what is the BHS (might be wrong)LOL
I have an appointment tomorrow and my vet will swab but he is at a loss as to what for!!! So if I can find the relavent info then I can print it off for him.

Or any other ideas on what might help.
I really need a puppy out of this girl to continue my line.

This old post may be of help.

I have had a bitch with BHS in a season which didn't run as normal. She was treated with synulux and then came back into season a month later . I mated her after another test which was clear.  I was advised by a fertility expert not to give her antibiotics before mating but to give them after mating. She went on to have 6 puppies. As she had missed the season before I couldn't believe how things had turned out.  Since then she has had two more seasons with the last one showing no infection but 11 puppies born.

I hope you are able to get another puppy from her.

Thanks everyone.
Off to vets tomorrow so will print off the info for the vet.
If she misses then at least I will know I did all I could, she is 6 in October so last chance for her. Unfortunately from her first littter I kept two boys but they were so laid back I let them go as neither would have shown.
