Hello I have just put a deposit on a bullmastiff puppy! I dont know whether he will be good enough to show? But if he is I would like to prepare myself now for what would lie ahead? Can anyone help with any tips to start on from an early age, so he doesnt get any bad habits!

If you would like to show - talk to the breeder now. They will be able to tell you if he has likely show potential or none at all. You also need to think about what type of showing you would like to do, exemption, open, champiom. The quality of your puppy may mean you could do all three reasonably or very well:D or that sticking to exemption or open would be best for you.

The best thing is to find your local ringcratf class and go along and talk to the people there. If you do it before you get your puppy then you'll know what to expect and can start off properly. You can't take your puppy until he is fully vaccinated but as soon as that is done you shouild be OK.

Pam is right, the first person to talk to is your boy's breeder.
Show training is relatively easy if you know what you're doing, but IMHO it is best to go to a local ringcraft club (ask at the Vets or look in your local paper) I go most weeks, it gives your dog an idea of what is expected of him and gets him used to the routine of Standing, Moving and being gone over by lots of different people. And it gives you training on handling too! :)
To watch out for shows you can get Dog World or Our Dogs (both in the newagents on Fridays) which will list forthcoming Exemption, Open, Limit & Championship Shows, or try the Vets, ringcraft club or local paper for local shows & events.
