This may seem like a bit of a strange question but is it possible for a bitch not to show any signs of being in season, and to actually be in season. We rescued Gypsy about a year and a half ago now from a couple that weren't coping at all with two very young boxers. With the help of our local boxer resue we found a home for the other little girl and decided that Gypsy would be ideal to stop with us. We were told by the couple that she had'nt been spayed but up to now, she has shown no signs of being in season. Would she show any signs of a scar if she had been spayed? She is now nearly three years old. I have been told by a vet that they can do a simple blood test to determin if she has been done or not but I just thought maybe somebody on here may be able to advise before I take her. Many thanks.
Personally I would be happier to get the blood test done and be absolutely sure.....but it sounds like she may well have been spayed.

this may seem a strange thing to say but is her vulva visable, i ask this because i have 2 spayed bitches one of which has had a litter too and once spayed their vulva's are vertually un-noticable as the hormones have been stopped and so i seems to shrink down very small in comparison to my intact females. obviously only my own experience but worth looking at. no guarantee but may be a good indication.
the other possibility is she has had silent season and without a male around you may never know!

I'm waiting for my BC bitch to come into season & she's 2 in three days time(& no I'm not breeding from her yet-she needs hip scoring & eye testing first & if the results are OK them I can start looking for a dog for her & looking @ why she hasn't come into seaon yet)
Mmm, her vulva is noticable but compared to my older bitch who has had a litter a few years ago, it is smaller and I do have an intact male who has'nt really taken any notice of her. They are kenneled on a night seperately but allowed in the house thoughout the day and hes never ever bothered to get amourous. If I have to go out for a couple of hours throughout the day, then sometimes Sam (male) goes in together with Gypsy and I can honestly say I've never noticed him try anything in the slightest. Maybe I'll just have to take her to vets to have the blood test, I think I've waited enough now. I did ask my vets to contact Gypsy's previous vets to try to get her history when we first got her but nothing has been said about her being spayed. Maybe if I ring up tomorrow and express my concern they will be able to confirm one way or the other.

one of my bearded collie girls didnt come into season until she was two she is also a one a year season kinda gal!
Whereas my other two had thier first season at 7m they are mother and daughter , I am also of the opinion bitches can tend to follow thier mother as to seasons.

I would have thought with a Boxer's short coat you would be able to see a scar line along her abdomen. I've got 3 spayed bitches, 2 Dobes and a Sussex Spaniel. I can see the scars on the Dobes (short coat), one is barely visible, the other quite noticeable. The spaniel having more coat is not visible at all.
Right, have managed this morning to get intouch with her previous vets and they have confirmed that she has'nt been spayed. So off to the vets this afternoon to see whats going on.
Been to the vets this afternoon and really still no further forward. She def hasn't been spayed. Vet does recon she has had a season at some point as she thinks her teats are quite big but she did say that maybe she just has silent seasons, although quite unusual that my dog has'nt picked up on anything, unless she just has'nt had a season with me. She has advised just to hang on and wait to see what happens. Even being around my older girl who has regular seasons has'nt brought her in season. Very strange.
