I have a lovely frindly soppy 7 yr old Labrador called Tiah and will be collecting our new arrival in 4 weeks, bullmastiff puppy 8 wks old - Louis.
I obviously want the first meeting to go as well as possible so not to cause any upset to Tiah or Louis.
Does anyone have any tips as to how to introduce the pair, dont get me wrong, Tiah is not an aggressive dog towards anything or anyone!!!!! She show a burglar my best china (LOL)
just want it to go as smoothly as poss!!!

Advice~New Puppy Owners. Hopefully, this thread will grow as people add their own tips to it :-)

I never pussy foot around when taking in a puppy . I simply bring it home and feed it and act as if nothing new had occurred .
Beforehand I would rub a towel or tee shirt over tiahs body and make sure you get her scent on it . put this around the puppy coming home and puppy will have a familiar smell coming in to tiah.
I did this with Berry and when she came in a few sniffs and all was well .
If you are keeping them indoors a crate is a godsend , it will allow Tiah space and the puppy rest .
It is a good idea to let an older dog sleep alongside the crate at night .
they bond and the puppy wont feel lonely .
Relax enjoy your bully they are an easy going dog and happy to live with any other dog . They like an easy life and no hassle.
They will instinctively protect your home and family and seem to know who is a threat and who isent.

Ahh Mari thats really helpful thank you, You couldnt convince my mum we will be alright, Im sure she thinks hes gonna tear us apart (LOL) !!OH well i know when he gets to my house and she comes to visit (See she dont even live with us!!) LOL!! She WILL fall madly in love with him and the Bullmastiff breed like we have!!!!!!!!!!!

Pinky I do much the same as Mari. I tranfer the older dogs' smell to the pup, then get Ian to nurse the pup while I bring the adults in one by one, on leads, making a fuss of them. As soon as the curiosity is past and I'm sure that the adult is safe with the baby (never had one that wasn't), I let the adults loose. For the first few days I keep a close eye on things, but the main problem I find is that some of my more maternal bitches insist on adopting the pup, and often give it more mothering than it really wants. As Mari says a crate is great for many reasons. It's also a good idea if you can provide Tiah somewhere to retreat to if the pup becomes too boisterous for ger. Best of luck - bullys are a wonderful breed!
