My 10 week old westie puppy has this morning been pooing blood. I will explain the circumstances:-
We picked him up 2 weeks ago from the breeder when he was 8 weeks old. He'd already had his Parvo injection at 6 weeks and we took him to the vet straight away for his first puppy injection which made him very sleepy which is normal apparently. His poo was like cow pats and then three days after his first injection he pooed some blood. I took him straight to the vet and he gave him so Pro-Kolin as he thought he had bacteria in his tummy that was causing the blood and the cow pat poos. He finished this last week and he had been fine since.
He has started to get into chewing everything and loves the cardboard bit of the toilet roll along with magazines. We took him to the vet yesterday for his 2nd puppy injection which made him very sleepy again for a bit but has been fine this morning until he has started pooing blood again. I've taken his food away along with the toilet rolls and he is having no treats for being a good boy.
Do you think it could be the injection yesterday? Could it be the toilet rolls? I don't really want to take him to the vet unless its necessary. The blood is bright red and is mucusey and he seems fine in himself.
I would take him to the vet with a sample if possible. One of my puppies was like this and it turned out he had colitus. Otherwise could he have chewed anthing sharp like small sticks/twigs. Better safe than sorry so back to the vet :)
I would got straight back to the vet ..what food is he on?? some foods can cause problems . Make sure he is getting plenty of fluids add a little sugar and salt to his water you have to be careful not feeding a young puppy ,pinch his neck if it stays up he is dehydrated and needs more fluids.
