Poor Milo my 3yr old JRT, I took him to the vets last week with a very sore infected willy. Vet gave him instead of tablets an injection that is a 2 week course of antibiotics and lasts 2 weeks. She also gave me some Rimadyl to give him and as he has a stomach ulcer to up his Zantac to 3 times a day.
Anyway that problem has improved quite a bit, he is by no means 100% there but much better than he was.
However night before last he had me up all night with the runs and there was some blood in it. So I never gave him his Rimadyl yesterday morning and as it continued I phoned the vet.
She said to starve him for 24 hrs and keep the Rimadyl stopped unless he got in a lot of pain down below again.
Now starving him is not really on with him as I tried to tell her as if he doesn't have at least 4 small meals a day he starts getting excess acid which irritates his ulcer and makes him vomit bile.
Anyway we have starved him, he has duly vomited bile all yesterday and last night and looked very sorry for himself as I think its so acidic it burns him. He still has the runs in fact slightly worse and still has some blood in it.
Now what do I do for the best today, do I give him some food so as not to cause more problems with his ulcer and stop the vomiting, (he never vomits up his food just this acidic bile) or carry on starving him for yet another 24 hrs to see if it helps the runs, although I am starting to think its this antibiotic injection thats caused it, in which case he will have at least another 8 or 9 days till it gets out of his system.
I will go and see my own vet tomorrow if things no better as he is excellent with Milo but hasn't been there for me to see last week. Its just today that concerns me as I know when he had an anesthetic for his teeth to be done a couple of weeks ago because he couldn't have his breakfast my vet gave him an injection to settle his stomach first, done his teeth so I could pick him up early and get food into him again.
In himself apart from the acid bile that seems to make him very uncomfortable and the runs he is still wanting a walk although I will only take him 10 mins round the block to stop him fretting he hasn't been out and he is begging for his breakfast.
Now question is do I give him some Heeelllp
