I adopted a Belgain Shepard approx. 1 year ago. He was a pup who was abandoned in a card board box with several of his brothers and sisters. When he had grown some the vet determined his breed. My problem is that he digs, huge holes. He is very distructive and has just recently chewed up our telephone line. My husband has had it and literally wants to 'do the dog in'. He is the most friendliest dog I have ever been around. My daughters love him and he is so good and gentle with children. Please help me. I have contacted a local pet breeder who offers obedience classes. For the digging she said to set up mouse traps. I did and that did not work. He's not afraid of anything. Any advice would be appreciated.

What sort of mouse traps?? I've never had this problem but have heard people sort it out by giving the dog a place to dig of their own. A sandpit or something similar. Does he have access to the garden on his own?

Chewing - how long is he left? Could be he's just bored. Have you tried giving him stuffed kongs?

my old golden retriever used to dig for england ;) I heard of a good remedy, where your dog digs, lay fine wire/mesh over the lawn, the grass grows over/through it just fine, and you can still cut the grass as normal, when the dog goes to dig they really hate the feel of the wire/mesh on their feet and nails and stop. I didn't actually try this, I did feel that perhaps the plastic mesh stuff would be better just in case of cut paws/nails .it is supposed to work, i don't know if anyone else has heard of it and whether it is good or bad idea. In the end we sectioned off the garden, concrete are just for dogs and grassy play area for kids. hope it helps :) julie
