Hiya!  I'm flying to South Africa in 4 weeks (yippee!) with KLM (Manc-Amsterdam-Cape Town) in economy class & was just wondering if anyone else had flown with them recently?  This might sound like a really stupid question but will the in flight entertainment be in Dutch & will all the announcements be in Dutch?  I've never flown with a foreign airline before so am curious!

Also am looking for suggestions of things to do for our stay in Cape Town & for the Garden Route - can anyone help?

We flew with KLM at Christmas when we came from back from Australia and they were really good.  The inflight entertainment is all in English and the announcements were made in English and then Dutch.

I flew KLM 18 months ago and I remember a film being in English but it wasn't one I wished to see (unlike others I have flown with you only have the overhead screen so no choice!). All announcements will are also made in English so you wont miss anything.

Enjoy your holiday

We're staying in Kariega Game Reserve for 3 nights - read some great reviews about it, plus we got the third night for free!  We're hoping to have a day in Port Elizabeth after the safari as we've a  day to kill before flying out of Joberg.  We thought about Durban, maybe next time!  Definitely going to Hermanus for whale watching, would like to go to Robben Island (apparently you're shown round by ex-prisoners!!) but apparently if the weather's not too good which it's likely to be when we're there it will get cancelled!  We're booking lots of other things this wknd, hoping to stay in the winelands, Stellenbosch is supposed to be great for wine tasting, the Spier looks fab plus they have a cheeter outreach centre & a spa!!!

When did you say you go?  I think we're quite lucky with prices & availability cos it's in effect their winter when we go which I don't mind (average temp 20 C) so their won't be too many tourists around plus everything seems a lot cheaper!! & a lot more freebies, our hotel in Cape Town has just e-mailed to offer an upgrade to a luxury suite & pick us up at the airport at no extra cost!!!

I'm sure we're both going to have a fab time, I really hope we see at least 4 of the Big 5, I don't know anyone whose seen a leopard!!

wow sounds great! your going to have a packed holiday then!

we fly out on 18th of oct so its about the middle of spring over there, the temps are the same as a hot summer here! ha ha
i dont know if kruger national park is abit to far for you but that is ment to be the best national park there so that would be well worth a visit and definalty see the big 5! our cousin use to live right on the edge of the park! the main fence was at the end of their street!!!
ive never seen a leopard either!!! a friend that steven went to school with had a pet leopard! they kept it in their garden!!!

wow thats great for your hotel to do that! we are staying mostly with family apart from thunzi bush lodge staying in a hotel on the beach front in port elizabeth for 5days.
are you renting a car?

we have found so many great deals on cars from websites from over there, all the britsh ones try and rip you off and end up paying over double on the actual price!

i will have a look at the game reserve your staying at now.:-)

We looked into Kruger but it's an extra flight & then a risky transfer & very very expensive so opted for the Easter Cape Safari lands, looks just as good but just not as expensive! We originally wanted to go to Kenya this year but were advised against it due to the troubles they had earlier on this year, hope to go there in the future though!

Yeah we are going to rent a car for the Garden Route part of our hols, we always book through Hertz though, they're quite reasonable & you know what you're getting with them!

Your hotel looks great, looks like you're quite close to a lot of good attractions too! Enjoy!

I have flown with them a few times and they have always been great - very attentive and loads of food!  I don't ever remember any announcements or films being in dutch though, although I do often sleep through flights
