The fibre used tends to be 'crude fibre', just roughage (rice,corn hulls for example) of little nutritional value and provides little to no energy.
Used as a 'filler' (makes the dog feel full without the calorie intake) High Fibre foods produced are aimed at the weight loss market, or are used to assist some conditions such as impacted or infected anal glands, diabetes to name a couple.
Too much fibre can inhinit the absorbtion of minerals and some vitamins.
